December 10th marks the final day of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and International Human Rights Day! Human Rights Day marks the anniversary of a pivotal moment in history: the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Proclaimed by the United Nations in 1948, this landmark document outlines the inherent rights every individual deserves. It was the first global agreement to define fundamental human rights as protections for all people, everywhere. Human rights are everyone’s rights! Learn more about your rights and help spread the word by: ➡ Read and share the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: https://lnkd.in/gEvhWEe ➡ Watch a video recording of the Declaration: https://lnkd.in/dpJFZs8c ➡ Read a simplified version of the Declaration: https://lnkd.in/d3aYttY8 Gender-based violence continues to be one of the most widespread and enduring human rights violations in the world. All girls and women must be able to exercise their full human rights without fear of violence or persecution. Governments must invest in preventing gender-based violence, enforce laws, and end impunity. Each of us can also make a difference by speaking out against violence, calling out harassment, challenging stereotypes, advocating for stronger laws and more. We all seem to know that violence is a serious human rights issue with far-reaching consequences. “Violence” agains women and girls in Bulgaria (as well as its little siblings “harassement” and “abuse”) are quite often main topic on the national news. In an alarming number of cases these are caused by intimate partners, close family members or local communities (as part of their tradition and cultural practices). To address this, we need a mix of strong laws, effective implementation of the existing legal requirements, education, and on the ground collective actions.

Agreed. However this should be a basic human right for all people who go out into the world each and every day. The queer community and people living with disabilities and other marginalised groups face similar challenges. We need to work together to challenge the system and create safer work environments and communities and living areas. The challenge is real. #Respect #HumanRights #PsychologicalSafety #PersonalSafety #SafeSpaces

Today marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence; a time to raise awareness and take action against one of the most pervasive human rights violations globally. Gender-based violence devastates lives, silences voices, and perpetuates cycles of fear and inequality. Ending this injustice demands collective action. Governments, organizations, communities, and individuals must stand united, acting boldly and persistently to foster a safer, more equitable world. Let’s use these 16 days as a powerful reminder that change is possible—not just through words, but through meaningful, sustained action. 🧡 Raise your voice. Support survivors. Challenge inequality. #AYGF #AfricaYouthGrowthFoundation #16DaysOfActivism #EndGBV #StopTheViolence #HumanRights
