#CventCONNECT has officially wrapped up, and what an exhilarating experience it was! As my first-ever #CventCONNECT, especially attending virtually, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But, I must say, it was well worth it. The variety of speakers, sessions, and content was impressive. Topics ranged from inclusion and accessibility to empowering women in events, and even sustainability and food waste. It felt like there was so much to absorb in just a few days. Here are some of my key takeaways: -Stakeholders still seem to prioritize scientific measurements over smile measurements. In my opinion, we need both to capture an accurate ROI. Bridging this gap is crucial. -Metrics are just numbers, but KPIs tell the story. Instead of gathering data points first and crafting our story later, I believe we should define the story we want to tell first and then select the data points to measure. -Universal design should always be the goal. -Women are redefining leadership in the event industry. We’re just getting started, and the momentum is exciting. -Don’t let others project their fears onto you. -Donating food, recycling inedible food, and composting food waste are not just possible, but easily supported if we embrace the Good Samaritan act. We need to challenge those hiding behind outdated liability concerns. Hey Neighbor! Let’s make this happen again next year! I just got back from SF, where we held our AGM & Annual Summit. Our team at Working Capital Fund brought together a curated group of people that all - in one way or another - push the boundaries towards more equitable supply chains. This included stakeholders from large corporations, non-profits, academia, family offices, civil society, workers’ organizations, and startups. We also welcomed some new LPs and portfolio companies such minu and TRACT. Very grateful for all the insights and discussions, including on ... 📖 What is the connection between policy and impact? What does the future look like for ethical supply chain regulation around the world? 📱 How can new technologies improve lives for marginalized workers and improve worker outcomes? How can risks be mitigated? 💰 How can financial mechanisms be used to promote transparency and accountability in multinational corporations? 🌎 How can we ensure that the transition to a planet-friendly & sustainable economy is just and fair, and includes a focus on marginalized communities? 💡 Finally, it was inspiring to hear reporters from The Associated Press and The Fuller Project remind us WHY we are doing all of this: Millions of people are still living in modern day slavery and peeling the shrimp that ends on our plates or pulling sugar cane for large multinationals in absolutely terrifying conditions. It is so easy to turn a blind eye to labor injustices when they happen elsewhere - far away and hidden among obscure suppliers. But that does not change the terrible injustice and immorality of such actions. It is exciting to see new innovations drive greater accountability, but also frightening to see that these issues persist and continue to be pervasive (not a bug in the system but a deeply embedded feature)... If you love what you do, you don't work a day in your life. I'm lucky to feel that way. As I shared with the audience at #risenational2024 this morning, what makes the work of slowing the #cycle of #recurrent #utilization so fun is catalyzing the creation of #interdisciplinary and #crosscontinuum team work. Not communication. Not interoperability. Not handoffs. Team work: working together to achieve a shared goal. This team work brings together people who don't know each other, from organizations that haven't worked together before. This is not vendor-client; this is not payer-contract - this is cooperation. You see, reducing #readmissions and recurrent #ED visits for #multivisitpatients is a co-produced outcome. If I want to succeed, I need you. If you want to succeed, you need me. And together, we problem solve in ways that neither of us would have thought of or been able to do alone. And when we have those break through ideas, lives are stabilized. Thats fun, and, more than that, to channel Dr Pronovost, it’s #love. And so I love what I do. This morning, I learned about a great leader I never knew. Some people remember the late Dr. Martin L. Block’s natural ability to engage and inspire audiences. Others recall his knack for simplifying keen industry insights for risk and quality professionals. But most people reminisce about how his passion to improve patient care influenced them. In the spirit of the RISE mission to encourage continuous improvement in the health care system, The Dr. Martin L. Block Award for Innovation & Excellence acknowledges an individual’s effort to enhance the lives of America’s seniors through clinical leadership, policy vision and by superior example. I am sorry I didn't know Dr Block - it sounds like maybe we would have been two peas in a pod! Thank you RISE for this honor in memory of his legacy. #Antiunimpactable #healthcaretransformation
