Do you know of a library we can support? I have learned so much about youth literature, funding challenges, and the politicized education challenges. We, as journalists, stay non-partisan but try to offer solutions in the way we would in our day jobs -- tell a story, convene a community, and offer solutions. The May Book Project is an academic approach to building diverse libraries through an AANHPI lens. It helps with student belonging. It's student and scholar-led. It gives librarians a choice -- typically we give schools an opportunity to pick 50 books out of a list of 320+. It supports curriculum to schools and states that will never mandate AANHPI history. We, as humans (and moms!) have to find a way to serve our communities without changing laws. We need to work together, out of silos, to ultimately serve the next generation and the heart of our communities.
We are proud to serve schools by donating books to libraries. Can we serve yours, too? - Did you know only 9 percent of books are considered "diverse"? - Did you know the principles of youth literature including mirrors and windows -- seeing yourself and learning about the lives of others? - Did you know that seeing a book that speaks to a child can change their views on belonging? - Did you know that many states still face challenges getting diverse books and AANHPI curriculum in schools? With a choice of 320+ books vetted by national scholars, The May Book Project works with schools that have tighter restrictions because it gives them choices and allows them to celebrate a book donation. Thank you 3x Olympian Alexander Massialas for being a secret reader yesterday at John Yehall Chin Elementary! Thanks to our sponsor AvalonBay Communities for making it happen with Gia Vang and Christine C. Ni.

Teachers play such an important role in shaping the minds of our future generations. Take a moment this week to show appreciation for all the hard work and dedication they put into their job every day! One way to show support is by donating to organizations that support teachers, such as the Million Dollar Teacher Project. Additionally, you can donate directly to classrooms to help provide necessary supplies for students. Just ask your nearest school, teacher friends, or send me a message! Another way to show support is by recognizing and thanking teachers on social media. Post about a teacher's dedication and tag them and their school to show your appreciation publicly. If you are a teacher, don't forget to take advantage of some special deals and discounts that are available during Teacher Appreciation Week. Check out this list of places where you can score some great deals: https://shorturl.at/oyzCM Let's all come together to show our gratitude and support for teachers who work tirelessly to educate and inspire our youth. Thank you, teachers, for all that you do! 📚🍎 #TeacherAppreciation #SupportTeachers Timothy Honan + Marcela Campbell + Haven Guyer + Lloyd Hopkins

Another 35 children receive hope through a Business Bookfairy 📚🧚♂️ - The counselor shown here 👇🏽 Thank you Gean Van Horn Van Horn and Sargon Eshagh CEO and VP of Marketing at zutBe. for making this possible. Sargon, thank you for personally delivering the books to Fischer Middle School too and supporting The Eastside Education Initiative (EEI). You were one of my first tech leaders at 23 and here we are over 25 years later … giving it back. Beautiful ❤️ Can we get more donors? One classroom at a time, one school at a time … How much? $220 for a classroom set of 35. That’s it 😍 so individuals and companies can all be part of this butterfly effect. Ps: grants ok too 🥰 I want books like this everywhere. Let’s prove that we can build demand backwards - that you the professional, that you a business sees value in HOPE books in schools. So by the time kids are out - we’ve shown them a job pathway option through story. Students need to see us to be us. 4000 books given for FREE to students in a year - for many their first book. We need to scale - if you have a way, reach out. Why so cheap? The cost to you the bookfairy donor is essentially cost but the impact - PRICELESS. ✨I’m aiming for impact✨ Thank you for all your support. Donate here or DM me https://lnkd.in/g2bqNpQ8 This many students get books with a classroom donation 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋 Also … Need chargers, battery packs from some really cool people, check out ZutBe.com Peace and love everyone ✌🏽❤️ #hope #books #nonprofit #education #motivation #jobs

zutBe. is a Martha Niño🦋 BOOK FAIRY! ❤️📖 zutBe became a Martha Niño Foundation Book Fairy in May! We sponsored a class at Fischer Middle School in San Jose, California by donating 35 books. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗮 𝗡𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 empowers communities, regardless of race or socioeconomic status, to develop skills and confidence to open new doors and break the cycle of poverty. Our donation of Martha's Books helps The Eastside Education Initiative (EEI). (Counselor from EEI pictured below)! EEI has a dual mission: advocating for equal funding for East San Jose schools and providing additional educational services to promote a culture of college and career readiness. Martha’s book, "𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙊𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙞𝙙𝙚: 𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙖 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙩𝙤 𝙎𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙤𝙣 𝙑𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙮," is a collection of wonderful stories that inspire youth and adults to keep pushing forward and never give up! The Bay Area Urban Debate League’s (BAUDL) annual end-of-year fundraiser is in full swing, and we are on our way to our goal of $100,000! You can donate here. Thank you to all who have already contributed and shared about our fundraiser, but there is much more work to do to ensure debate education is available to all students within the Bay Area’s most under-resourced public schools. The benefits of debate exceed even academic progress, but help students invest in their own learning and ideas. The findings from this study published by the American Educational Research Association says: “In many ways, debate flips the roles found in a traditional classroom. Rather than passively listening to an adult deliver a lecture, in a debate, students are at the front of the room, taking ownership of their learning… Debate may therefore provide some students with a reason to come to school.” Help us meet our goal of $100,000 by December 31, 2024 with a tax-deductible donation today. Every dollar you give is an investment in debate education and in the future of Bay Area students.

Hello Colleagues, Connections, and Friends! The CohnReznick LLP Charlotte office CARES initiative for July has been collecting donations for Classroom Central. Through their partnerships, each $1 donated becomes $9 worth of distributed supplies for students in our community. These donations give students the supplies they need for a successful school year. Every dollar donated (via the link below) through the end of the day today will go to purchasing kits that will be given to local students in need. We will assemble these kits ourselves, and deliver them to Classroom Central next month. Please consider making a small (or large) donation to our local students and teachers! Consider this insight from a 3rd-grade teacher in Charlotte: "There are always unseen challenges for students. As teachers, we strive to understand and address the struggles they face outside the classroom. When kids live in poverty and high-stress environments, focusing on learning to read or understand fractions becomes incrementally more difficult, not to mention the stress of worrying if they can get the necessary books and supplies they need to complete their homework and lessons. With the help of Classroom Central, I can alleviate at least one of their stressors, making it easier for them to feel capable and successful while they're at school." Thank you for any and all donations!! <3 https://lnkd.in/gQezNchQ

It's #GivingTuesday! For families who cannot afford high school tuition, paying for field trips in Belize or abroad is out of the question. But retreats, field trips and summer trips to other countries help students decide who they want to be and what they want to do with their lives. This Giving Tuesday, we are raising money for our Leadership+ students to immerse themselves in learning opportunities outside the classroom. Money is the only roadblock these bright and curious students have in their educational journey; we want to clear the path for them and we need your help to do that. Please consider a monthly gift of $25 that will give access to ongoing extra-curricular opportunities like our STEAM programs, collaborations with colleges like Michigan State University, Youth Theology Network experiences in Boston and local trips that help students imagine what's possible for them professionally and how they might reach their God-given potential. You probably won't miss $25/month; these students won't ever forget it. https://lnkd.in/d64P2saC

Today is #GivingTuesday! Consider donating to Minds Matter Colorado: https://lnkd.in/gDkGkigh Did you know that while Colorado is one of the five most educated states in the country, we’re in the bottom five at helping Colorado students graduate high school and get into college? Did you know nearly 91% of jobs that pay a living wage in Colorado require some level of education after high school? At Minds Matter Colorado, we’re on a mission to prove that it’s access, not ability, that limits college choice for many qualified students. So we connect bright students from low-income households with the relationships and resources they need to expand their post-secondary educational horizons. Our unique approach combines three years of mentorship with committed volunteers, weekly college-prep instruction and access to summer programs at colleges across the country. As a result, 100 percent of our graduates complete high school on time and are accepted to four-year colleges and universities with scholarships. With your support we can make sure these students have the chance to expand their horizons and we can serve more students like them across the state.
