Why accessibility design matters. 1. When we design with accessibility in mind we improve the experience for everyone. Which is a good thing. 2. You don't get sued. Which is also a good thing. According to UsableNet in 2023 in the US there were 4,605 filed ADA law suits. Thats a jump of 1,405 since 2022. ADA = American with Disability Acts One of the easiest things you can do to improve accessibility on your website is to check your colour contrast. Handy tool: https://colourcontrast.cc/ Some platforms like Webflow even have built in tools to allow you to do this. We entered Plecto into our 45 minute SaaS hero re-design challenge, and the first thing we did to start making improvements was to improve contrast. We also re-wrote their proposition to be more focussed and showcased the product more. Fancy having your website redesigned by a team of experts in under an hour? Did you know that over a billion people worldwide have some form of disability that impacts how they interact with digital products? Here’s why accessibility is essential in UI/UX design: 1️⃣ Wider Reach – By making your product accessible, you ensure that people with different abilities—whether they’re visually impaired, hearing impaired, or have motor challenges—can use it effectively. 2️⃣ Improved Usability – Accessibility features, like clear fonts, proper contrast, and keyboard navigation, often improve the overall usability for all users, making the product more intuitive. 3️⃣ Legal Compliance – Many countries have regulations that require websites and apps to meet certain accessibility standards. Failing to comply could result in lawsuits and penalties. 4️⃣ Brand Perception – A brand that values inclusivity and takes the extra step to make its product accessible is seen as more responsible, ethical, and caring. When I design, I incorporate these best practices to ensure accessibility: 🔸 Descriptive alt text for images 🔸 Keyboard navigability 🔸 Proper color contrast 🔸 Scalable fonts for readability 🔸 Screen reader compatibility Are you sure your product is accessible to all users?
