The shackles are off! The garden leave is finally over. The lawns are immaculate (ish), the golf handicap has stubbornly held firm (!), the wife is remarkably still speaking to me and our 8-month puppy will have to start playing on his own. It’s time to get back into a market where over the last 30 years I’ve learnt tons, achieved lots, made many genuine friends and witnessed and led huge transformations. Whatever you say about the insurance market, it’s here to stay, it serves a purpose to society and it’s generally full of decent and smart folk doing their best to protect their customers from the worst that could happen. I’m therefore absolutely delighted to be returning to the market as a Director and shareholder of FJN Growth Solutions. Working alongside the very talented and equally ambitious and driven team of Nic Brown and Dan Small and looking forward to Doug Rice joining us next month. The breadth of knowledge across the team is vast and being part of a Consultancy Practice with multiple product and distribution experience is hugely exciting for me and highly advantageous to our clients. Dan and Nic have done a great job to get the business up and running and in just 12 months they have validated their initial hunch that a gap exists in the market. That gap is for businesses seeking growth and that need help from experienced individuals who can share their knowledge, skills and market contacts.  Whether that is support to do organic growth better, explore and execute diversification strategies or help to find the right acquisition, we have the collective skills and know-how to deliver and add value. It’s great to also be hitting the ground running with clients already on-board and lots of discussions underway with the diary filling up for December. It's been a fantastic last few days of industry catch-ups for our founder Neil! He spent Tuesday with Taela, hearing about all the incredible work she's been doing as she navigates year three of her business journey. Then yesterday, he drove way out west to Toowoomba to connect with Brody who's now in his second year of business - it's amazing to see how much he's grown over the past 12 months. His confidence has soared and it's clear that business leadership suits him perfectly. These conversations spanning business, life and insurance remind us of why we love our industry - it's all about the people and watching them flourish. Public liability (PL) insurance is not legally required in Australia. It is, however, highly recommended for sports and mass participation events that interact with the public: that is, all sports and all event operators. Without insurance protection, the sport's Directors or the event operator could be found personally liable for these costs; business interruption: put simply, legal claims can be very disruptive to manage and can impact on business operations in ways other than just financial; reputational damage: having to manage claims without insurance may well lead to significant reputational damage and a dilution of customer and stakeholder trust. Maintaining solid insurance protection is a sign of sound organisational governance; and contractual issues: it is difficult, if not impossible, to operate a sport or stage an event in the absence of PL cover, particularly if local government and emergency service permits are required.
