🌟Embracing Cycling for sustainable mobility🚲 As cities around the world strive to become more sustainable, the role of cycling as a key mode of transport cannot be overstated. According to the Ipsos study “Cycling in the World”, “the bicycle is the most supported means of transportation by the population: 82% of the global population, on average, has a favorable opinion about this means of transportation.” Here are some benefits of cycling: 🌍 Sustainability: Bicycles emit zero emissions, significantly reducing urban air pollution and contributing to climate change mitigation. 🚴♂️ Health Benefits: Cycling promotes physical fitness and mental well-being. It integrates exercise into our daily routines, which can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases and improve overall health. 🏙 Urban Efficiency: Bicycles take up far less space than cars, alleviating traffic congestion and reducing the need for extensive parking infrastructure. This can transform our cities into more efficient, people-friendly spaces. 💰 Economic Savings: Cycling is cost-effective. It reduces personal transportation costs and can lower public spending on healthcare due to the associated health benefits. By priotizing bikes, we can pave the way for cities that are eco-friendly and livable. Let’s make our cities greener, healthier, and more efficient with cycling! Paris's cycling boom raises a critical question: Should we continue prioritizing the present comfort of our cars, electric or otherwise, over simpler, healthier alternatives like biking, which also safeguard our future physical and mental health and the planet's well-being? This shift not only challenges the notion that EVs are the ultimate solution for urban sustainability but also prompts us to rethink our reliance on technology. As bicycles surpass cars in usage, it's time to evaluate whether simpler solutions might better serve our cities and us. 🗨 🚴♀️ 🚶♂️ Many of us have been there in meetings or writing policy, trying to describe sustainable transport. And we land on “Non-Motorized Transport.” But seriously: ❌ 🚗 What does "non-motorized" even mean? It’s a catch-all term that reinforces a car-centric mindset, making walking and cycling seem like exceptions. It doesn’t really do justice to the actual modes of transport we’re talking about. 🚶♀️ Walking and 🚴♂️ cycling have distinct policy requirements and lumping them together overlooks key differences: 👣 People walking need safe, accessible sidewalks, protected crossings, seating, and proper lighting. 🚲 Cyclists need separated bike lanes, secure parking, and protection from motor traffic. These groups shouldn’t be treated the same because their infrastructure needs are different. 💡 Solution? Let’s call it what it is: Walking and Cycling. Simple, clear, and focused on delivering the infrastructure and attention both groups deserve. What do you think about it? Let's discuss in the comments! #UrbanMobility #Walking #Cycling #ActiveMobility Meme by Nikola Medimorec

🚲 As an industry we are constantly on the alert for any international, national or local regulations that try to separate electrically assisted bikes from pedal-only cycles, because separating them in any way does huge damage to the diversity of cycling. And a new proposal from the Norwegian Government does just that. 🌲The proposal says that e-bikes will be banned from all trails, their use will be restricted to specified roads and designated general paths only, ending access to almost all trails enjoyed by mountain bikes. ➡️ That's why we need to act. IMBA Europe has come out with a thoughtful and sensitively worded statement on the topic which we wholeheartedly support. Through CIE’s Mountain Bike Interest Group we are now reaching out to business stakeholders in Norway to offer our support and encouragement in any campaign to oppose this proposal. 👉 Read more about this case and how you can offer support here: https://lnkd.in/ggmH2aHp #CyclingIndustriesEurope #EBikes #Sustainability #Mobility

The founder of Circular Cycling highlights some of the sustainability challenges the industry faces in an interesting read on the GCN website today. I'm certainly well aware of many of the issues the article mentions having ridden and raced across tens of thousands of kilometres, as well as continuing to store a variety of "dead" bikes and bike parts. For those who are unaware, the pro peloton will cover over 10,000 kilometres over the three Grand Tours this year (Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a España). Following them will be an army of support vehicles, TV crews, race helicopters and promotional trucks. The result? A big carbon footprint! For instance, in 2021 it was found that the Tour de France was responsible for 216,388 tCO2e over the three-week race. Cycling is fantastic for so many reasons but there’s still a lot to do across the amateur and professional industries. Whether it’s improving end-of-life circularity, producing bikes and equipment more sustainably, or requiring teams and organisers to be more accountable. https://lnkd.in/eRhNzqrZ

CYCLING: It is a high-performance sport practiced with bicycles, two-wheeled vehicles powered by human muscle power. The main objective is to travel certain distances, whether on roads, trails or closed circuits, through pedaling and balance control. The bicycle is a two-wheeled vehicle with pedals that allows people to move in an efficient, healthy and non-polluting way. In urban areas, its average speed ranges between 15 and 25 km/h. It is especially interesting for routes less than 8 kilometers. In addition to protecting the environment, cycling promotes sustainable mobility, improves health and reduces the risk of spreading the coronavirus by maintaining social distance. 🚲

A forbidden love for cycling I remember the year 2018 when I used to travel everywhere with my purple Hero cycle. This #WorldCyclingDay(June 3)made me nostalgic for the days when I roamed freely on my bicycle without any hassle of vehicle-stuffed roads. But, today especially in metropolitan cities, the spike in four-wheelers and unsafe road conditions make it tough for riders to experience the fresh air and explore their love for riding. Due to inadequate bike lanes and the potential risks of accidents, parents prefer to drop their kids themselves. This steals a major learning experience from the kids and affects their physical growth. Cycling is no longer a luxury, it has become the need of the hour. Observing life-threatening heatwaves in the Capital, cycling becomes a sustainable alternative to pollution-causing vehicles, providing a cleaner and healthier environment. It will prove to be cost-effective and will also contribute to improving our physical and mental health. I wish for a day when people will choose sustainable and adventurous cycling and contribute to a healthy and eco-friendly tomorrow. #WorldCyclingDay #sustainable

The biggest benefit cycling has, is not often talked about. Health and sustainability dominate the public discourse. But I have to say, those are not the key reasons people ride bicycles. People ride because it feels fantastic. The movement in fresh air creates a rush of freedom and energy. Just like this me morning. I took my daughter to pre-school and then rode a city bike to the railway station. Suited up, ready for today's meetings and feeling energised. That's something I rarely experience with driving a car or sitting in a bus. The health and the sustainability are also there. But if cycling felt terrible, I'd take the bus instead. What's your take? Why do you commute like you do? #cycling #sustainability #mobility
