Every record label should have a strong social media presence in China. Without strong socials, you’re doing a disservice to your artists: You’re negatively impacting their discoverability and growth because music fandom in Asia is about affiliation and identity. In Asia, an artist’s label is actually a label. And, as a label, you need to help your artists create a strong identity affiliation with consumers. Fans want a community. They want a point of view that is represented and symbolized by the artists and brands they love. Fans want connection. With the artist and each other. Connection lives on socials, especially things that don’t scale like chat groups, fan clubs and community outreach. There are 300 million middle class music consumers in China. If your label isn’t strongly branded on social media in China, you’re telling them that you’re not interested. You’re also missing a chance to build an artist community that spins a flywheel of revenue.
