Gratitude is in the air this time of year-more than any other,  it seems. Nearly everywhere I look people are sharing what they’re grateful for. Businesses are posting appreciation for clients, team members and suppliers. And yes, I am so thankful for these things, too! But I want my gratitude to show up all year round. Not just for a season, but as a habit. Gratitude can come from the simplest of acts: Taking a moment to recognize a colleague's hard work. Sending a quick text to a friend to let them know they’re valued. Writing a handwritten note to a client who trusted us with their business. Or simply saying “thank you”… and really meaning it. These small acts go a long way—and make people feel seen and appreciated. Gratitude doesn’t need to be grand to be genuine. It just needs to be real.

While this is the perfect moment to reflect on gratitude, we should promise ourselves to make it a powerful force in our lives, and a guiding principle, year-round. It strengthens relationships, inspires us to be our best and reminds us why we do what we do, personally and professionally.   To all who’ve been part of my journey this year— a big thank you! Your insights, kindness, generosity, support, trust, perspective, partnership and quick wit (essential, don’t you think?) make a difference every day.   And now, of course, to lawyers and law firms . . . engaging with your current and ideal clients in meaningful ways lays a solid foundation for strengthening and deepening these connections. Even a simple “thank you” can be hugely impactful for engendering loyalty in your business development. According to a study by Forrester (link in comments), 76% of customers remain loyal to brands that make them feel valued.   So, please . . . send a card, make a call, mail a gift.
