#ICYMI Dr. Jimmy Lin was named a 2024 Fellow of the Association for Computational Linguistics. Congratulations on being a trailblazer at the University of Waterloo! University of Waterloo Faculty of Mathematics
I am thrilled to congratulate Dr. Jimmy Lin who has been named a 2024 Fellow of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL). Notably, he is the first at the University of Waterloo to receive this honour. In recognition of his significant contributions to question answering and information retrieval, Dr. Lin - professor and Cheriton Chair at Waterloo’s Cheriton School of Computer Science - is one of nine researchers worldwide to receive this distinction. He builds tools to help users make sense of large amounts of data by working at the intersection of information retrieval, natural language processing, and data management. Established in 2011, ACL fellowships are conferred annually to members whose contributions to the field have been extraordinary through their scientific and technical excellence, service to the association and the community, along with broader educational and outreach activities.
