The State Broadband Office is teaming up with Workforce Board Executive Director Eleni Papadakis and the Washington Workforce Association for a conversation about workforce development and federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) funding opportunities. The BEAD and Workforce Connections Webinar at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 aims to educate workforce development professionals so they are prepared to handle questions from grant applicants in coming weeks. FutureDotNow, a coalition of industry leaders, set up the charter to ensure all working adults in the UK have the digital skills they need. Under the charter we’ve committed to three key pledges: 📢 Raising awareness of the digital skills gap in the workforce and the opportunity to be realised through concerted action. 🤝 Working together as part of a national change program to supercharge action on workforce digital skills. 💼 Empowering people of working age to build solid digital foundations. The incredible Digital Inclusion team at Cornwall Council are making a real impact through their work targeting digital exclusion. At the other end of the spectrum Digital Futures is delivering skills to power our fast-growing tech sector thanks to the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Good Growth Fund. But there is still a ‘hidden middle’, people who can’t do the tasks deemed essential to be productive, safe, and connected at work. We know this is the case across all sectors. So, as well as working to close the gap for our own workforce, we’ll be working with partners across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to raise awareness of the charter. The Interstate Bridge Replacement program recognizes that a skilled and diverse workforce is critical to the program's success. To identify strategies to improve workforce readiness and empower participation by business owners and workers of historically disadvantaged communities, we recently commissioned a workforce study. The study — a collaborative effort by Clackamas Workforce Partnership, Worksystems and Workforce Southwest Washington — is a key step in understanding the gaps in the region's current workforce and provides recommendations for how to bridge them.
