I was a little nervous being on camera, but it was a pleasure to share my positive feedback with the BT and Striver teams 🎉 As a full time CSO at a suburban financial planning firm and an online financial planning student at Deakin, the opportunity to meet others in the industry at events like these is so precious to me. Not just as a wonderful chance to network with other young people in the finance space, but to meet its leaders and gain an understanding of the current industry environment. Brimstone allowed me to step outside my scope of experience and discover new ways of doing things. Financial planning can be such a varied industry and it’s easy to forget that in the day-to-day, when all you have is an example of how one or two advisers at your company operate. I love discovering how different financial planning businesses operate and how they structure their priorities in their culture and processes. It inspires me with improvements and ideas I can implement in my own career and back at my own workplace. More than that though, it keeps me passionate about my career this industry. It’s inspiring to see Striver pioneering the way with Brimstone 2024, and I hope more organisations will follow suit. I truly believe that the more this space invests in young people and its support staff, the more it can blossom as an industry. As we heard at Brimstone, the financial planning space has so much growth potential over the next few years. Investing in our future and ongoing learning at all levels of the industry is such a worthwhile endeavour.

👨🎓 This graduation season I wasn't expecting to receive a sheepskin, but I am proud of what this certificate represents for our Morton Brown Family Wealth clients and community. For 100 days, Kathryn Brown, CFP®, ChFC® and I were part of a international cohort of financial advisors participating in Shaping Wealth's Building the Behavioral Advisor program. Our goal? To fight stereotypes for what an advisor is supposed to do. The course was collaborative but also deeply personal. We went beyond the WHY of our work to get to WHO we are and WHO we serve. We learned from each other and about ourselves, all in the interest of being more effective guides for the families we serve. Here are just a few of the concepts that were most powerful for me: 💸 What does it mean to be wealthy vs. rich 🗳 40% of happiness is choosing to be happy 😌 More is a number, Enough is a mindset 🔀 Our role as a guide is all about helping people navigate change The lessons of this program are alive in our work now and we are better advisors for having spent time with Brian Portnoy, CFA, Joy E. I had a meeting with Dan Skiles, President of Shareholders Service Group. These were some of my key takeaways from the call. 1.Folks who do really well usually get their CFP, most broadly recognized, provides extensive education/knowledge, can work without it…however increases your upward mobility in both position and comp with the CFP certification, helpful with being in a position to be client facing.  Growing knowledge is a life-long goal.  Push hard on testing and certifications, FINRA certifications, higher ed, etc. 2. Super into inside operations of how financial markets work behind the scenes which led him to go into financial services and presents at various conference forums.  This has helped build many connections and network opportunities to get him to the position he is in now. Wasn’t shy about getting to know competitors and partners that they work with, just embrace the conferences and information, 3.When selling companies the process begins with valuation and synergies.  Other critical areas were culture and mission, need goals to align, belief in advisors, if the partners liked working with each other. 

Opinions are the difference between Real Financial Professionals and used car salesmen. Good advice and good marketing are nothing but a strong set of opinions. People want it straight. They want to know where you stand, and they value a clear point of view. As financial professionals, you better believe we have opinions!
