#Kubernetes 1.30 is live! But that's not all I'm excited about today. I'm thrilled to announce that my first full-page contribution to the Kubernetes documentation is now live too! I've written a new tutorial that explains how to use ConfigMaps to manage and update configuration in applications. While it may sound simple enough, this tutorial dives into the depths of ConfigMaps, exploring the differences between ConfigMaps mounted as volumes versus ConfigMaps as env variables, the use of ConfigMaps in multi-container Pods, the use of ConfigMaps in Pods containing Sidecar containers, and updating configuration that is based on Immutable ConfigMaps. I began drafting this page at the end of December 2023. Over the next three months, the draft underwent a series of reviews and improvements, and I can say I'm quite proud of the final outcome. I invite you all to give it a read and share your feedback. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/dB-3TTkd

💡 2 / 7 of Being Dockerized⛴️ 🚢 =====Docker Workflow ===== 1️⃣ Dockerfile: Contains the app code and a dependency list, acting as a blueprint. 2️⃣ Docker Image: Built from the Dockerfile—a packaged, portable version of the application. 3️⃣ Docker Hub: The image is pushed here, making it accessible globally. 4️⃣ Docker Container: The image runs inside a container, providing a lightweight and isolated runtime environment. Key Insight: Once pushed to Docker Hub, the image can be pulled and run on any machine with Docker installed, ensuring seamless deployment and consistent application performance everywhere. ----------examples---------- 🛠️ 1. Dockerfile Think of this as a recipe. The Dockerfile contains precise instructions (like ingredients and steps) to create a Docker image. It specifies what your app needs—code, libraries, and configurations. Fun Fact: A single Dockerfile can make your app portable across various environments with zero compatibility issues! 📷 2. Docker Image This is the ready-made dish based on your recipe. A Docker image is a self-contained package that includes your code, dependencies, runtime, and more. It's immutable, meaning it doesn’t change, ensuring consistency across environments. Did You Know? Docker images are layer-based. This layering reduces storage space and speeds up builds by reusing unchanged layers. 🏛️ 3. Docker Registry The registry is your pantry or storage shelf. It’s a centralized repository where Docker images live. Think Docker Hub, AWS Elastic Container Registry, or your private registries. You “push” images here and “pull” them when needed. Fun Fact: Docker Hub hosts millions of pre-built images, from databases to web servers, ready for you to use. 📦 4. Docker Container A Docker container is the final dish served and ready to be consumed. It’s a lightweight, isolated runtime environment that runs your application based on a Docker image. Mind-Blowing Stat: Containers start in milliseconds, making them ideal for scaling apps quickly in production. Bye.... Still got loads to learn! #docker #dockerArchitecture #dockerhub
