The Boy Scouts of America created a Settlement Trust through its Chapter 11 bankruptcy to compensate survivors of sexual assault. This Trust seeks to provide fair financial relief, with compensation based on factors like abuse severity and long-term impact. Tara King and Emma Guidry, ACP explain how survivors can claim their payments and how compensation is determined. #WLF #WagstaffWay #BSASettlement #SettlementTrust https://lnkd.in/gRfdttkn

This payment demonstrates a severe lack of understanding of the needs of someone seeking safety. $1500 is ludicrous. This payment is extremely restrictive and too many hoops to jump through. It needs fixing asap. It needs to be distributed through community legal centres on the front line. Women need money for legal representation, to cover mortgage repayments and usually bills to keep the lights on and petrol in the car. $1500 is nowhere near enough to gain freedom from domestic violence. What survivors need. 1. Appropriate legal support to remove the perpetrator from the home and to keep themselves and their children safe from the perpetrator (usually the father). 2. Legal support to freeze assets and protect bank accounts, mortgage redraw access and all joint credit accounts and to separate financially from the perpetrator as quickly as possible. 3. Financial support with rent or mortgage for as long as needed to remain safely in own home. 4. Financial support to recover, rebuild and heal including counselling and therapy for mother and children. We will be doing a great service to society by providing appropriate supports for victim survivors and holding perpetrators accountable. This would save billions and billions of dollars. #HowDareShe be revered for her unpaid work as a mother. #HowDareShe be protected from misogyny!

Today, on #NationalSorryDay, we stand in solidarity with the Stolen Generations and their survivors. This year's theme, 'Bringing Them Home – the unfinished business,' highlights the critical need to address outstanding recommendations. Many Stolen Generations survivors, now elders, deserve access to full and fair redress and the records that hold their stories. We join our voices with First Nations organisations demanding justice and a future grounded in equity. Now and everyday. Healing is central to reconciliation. Transformation
Volume up, it’s a tear jerker. This video starts out with the first time I set foot back in the house where I almost died - many times over. I wanted to burn it to the ground. I called this house, and the street where it sits, “hell” and so did many others. The volume of narcotics, women, mayhem and violence that were peddled out of this house are staggering. It was truly hell on earth. As the video progresses, you’ll see me revisit the house, with friends - some who are no longer with us - and even my kids. An idea took hold - instead of burning it down, acquire it, and renovate it into something positive. Use it as an anchor to change that entire street called “hell” into a place where kids can play outside again, where neighbors fellowship, and where hope can live again. We did end up acquiring and renovating that house. And the one next door, two more up the street, one around the corner. And we have no intentions of slowing down. Halfway into it, Scott Mann (he’s in the video too), a Green Beret with extensive experience running Afghan Village Stability Operations came to see what we were doing, and noticing a LOT of similarities between our block project and VSO, began advising us on how to leverage SOF doctrine to empower this community to rise up on its own and keep the bad actors at bay. We immediately put his recommendations into action. To date, we have shuttered TWO active dope houses, and one house used to traffick women (in other words, a brothel). We have gotten nearly 300 people off the streets, sober, housed, and employed - veterans, women and children among them. We have created dozens of jobs and stopped violent crime on two of the historically deadliest streets in America’s deadliest city. And we did it without firing a single shot or needing law enforcement to make a single arrest (with the exception of three child predators/abusers). This is how we change America from the bottom up. This is how we restore our communities. This is how I recover. As Scott says “nobody’s coming. It’s up to us.”
