UEFA vs. FIFA 8:48 UEFA announced the new format of UEFA European U-17 and U-17 championships on 26 September 2023 (https://lnkd.in/dB6P5Nac & https://lnkd.in/dePMs7_c — last updated: Sunday, April 7, 2024). In particular, UEFA decreased the number of participants in the U-17 final tournament from 16 to 8 beginning on 2025. FIFA reported about changes to FIFA World Cup U-17 on 14 March 2024 (https://lnkd.in/dnCMsUDe). Since 2025, the number of participants of the tournament will increase from 24 to 48. The championship will also be held annually rather than biennially from 2025. Meanwhile, the U-17 tournament was played for odd dates of birth, and the FIFA U-20 World Cup was conducted for evens. The new format has not yet been announced. The number of UEFA’s participants is unknown. In the last competition, 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup, five European association teams played (https://lnkd.in/df56PtyZ). UEFA reduced twice the number of teams in the U-17 tournament. FIFA expanded it double. Gigantomania on the march!? #nationalteam

Warriors take aim at Liberia: The Brave Warriors take on Liberia in a Fifa World Cup qualifier today in the unaccustomed position of top of the log and in with a growing chance of qualifying for the 2026 Fifa World Cup. With Fifa having nearly doubled the African qualifiers for the world cup from five to a record nine, the winners of each of the nine qualifying groups will now qualify directly for the 2026 Fifa World Cup, due to be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Besides that, the four best runners-up will also have an outside chance of reaching the Fifa World Cup, as they will be involved in a play-off competition, with the winner going through to a final World Cup qualifier – the Inter-confederation play-offs – where the top two teams will qualify for the world cup. And as if that is not enough, Namibia’s chances received a major boost when Equatorial Guinea were penalised for using an ineligible player, Emilio Nsue, in their opening matches against Namibia and Liberia, with the result that Namibia’s original 1-0 defeat in Malabo on 15 November last year (where Nsue scored the winner) has now been changed to a 3-0 victory. Coupled with their 2-0 victory against Sao Tome e Principe six days later, Namibia have now jumped to the top of the log on six points, along with group favourites Tunisia, who beat Sao Tome e Principe 4-0 and Malawi 1-0 in their opening two matches. But besides the boardroom machinations, Namibia have also improved considerably under coach Collin Benjamin over the past year and the holy grail of reaching the world cup – a feat that Namibia has never achieved, is now not so fanciful anymore. Under Benjamin they qualified for their fourth Afcon finals in history, after beating African powerhouses, Cameroon, and at the finals in the Ivory Coast they stunned Tunisia with a 1-0 victory and drew against Mali to reach the last 16 knockout stages for the first time in history. As such, their Fifa ranking has also improved to 23rd in Africa and 106 in the world, and on paper at least, they will start as the favourites against Liberia, who are ranked 46th in Africa and 152 in the world. Liberia lost their opening qualifier 1-0 to Malawi, but were also awarded points against Equatorial Guinea and now lie third on the log on three points. Liberia, however, hold the upper hand against Namibia historically, with one win and one draw in their only two encounters so far. Benjamin not getting carried away Benjamin, meanwhile, refused to get carried away by their recent results at Afcon 2023 and remained focussed on the task at hand. “I think that is behind us. It is totally behind us. I think the boys did good, the entire team and technical staff did well. They created a little bit of history for the country, which is really great for Namibian football, but this is now something that is definitely behind us. The cards are new, and…

The quarter final match between France and Portugal will be a riveting one, after France as the host in 2016, was defeated by a Portugal squad not as good as the present Portugal squad. The latter triumphed despite being underdogs. France, will face a tougher Portugal this time around, making for a quarter-final filled with so much poise. France arguably got their best redemption by winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup after two years of losing in the finals of a continental championship they hosted. That being said, revenge for the 2016 loss will still definitely be in the offing. It is also worthwhile to note the following; 1. France are yet to score from open play in the tournament, with their only goals coming from a penalty by Kylian Mbappe and two goals from the opposing team. 2. Portugal do have a record of ups and downs in the tournament, with two wins, a loss to Georgia, and a win over Slovenia via penalty shootouts. You all should brace yourselves for a pulsating encounter! #Sports #Football #Euros

Extra time added at the FIFA tournaments One year ago, I posted about added extra time in the women’s World Cup in Australia 2023 and now it seems like we are seeing same pattern in the Men’s U21 and Women’s tournament at the Olympics 2024 in Paris. Let’s have a look at the first rounds: 1st Round: Women’s Olympic Tournament, Paris 2024: ESP - JPN: 90+7 CAN - NZL: 90+11 NIG – BRA: 90+9 GER – AUS: 90+7 FRA – COL: 90+12 USA – ZAM: 90+5 ➡️Average added time per game: 8,5 minutes ➡️Range from: 5-12 minutes 1st Round: Men’s Under 21 Olympic Tournament, Paris 2024: UZB – SPA: 90+10 ARG – MOR: 90+20 GUI – NZL: 90+14 EGY – DOM: 90+9 IRQ – UKR: 90+14 JPN – PAR: 90+6 FRA – USA: 90+9 MLI – ISR: 90+8 ➡️Average added time per game: 11,25 minutes ➡️Range from 6-20 minutes (I recognize that the ARG-MOR game was prolonged under special circumstances) My first thought was that FIFA tournaments seem to have more extra time added compared to UEFA tournaments, so I checked the first round of Men’s EURO 2024 in Germany to compare. 1st Round: Men’s Euro, Germany 2024: 6 groups, 24 teams and 36 games played: ➡️Average added time per game: 7,7 minutes ➡️Range from 4-18 minutes The FIFA tournaments are so far having more extra time added than the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament, but in general, coaches should be aware of the amount of extra time added, which leads to considerations about physical exhaustion of the starting players, timing and use of substitutions and the relatively bigger impact on female players because of physiological differences between men and women.

UEFA EURO 2024 had some dramatic endings over the last few days, but Croatia 🇭🇷 and Albania 🇦🇱 played a four-goal thriller that may very well be the best match at the tournament so far. For the second consecutive match, the Albanians would jump into the lead as Qazim Laçi sent a header past Dominik Livaković and over the line on 11 minutes. Croatia would tie the score a full hour later at the seventy fourth minute mark, and would take the lead two minutes later as Klaus Gjasula accidentally deflected the ball past Thomas Strakosha and in. Croatia were about to take the three points, but Gjasula would be the one to again make a match-changing move, taking advantage of a Josip Šutalo deflection in the centre of the penalty area by thumping the ball into the bottom-left corner at the 90+5' mark. The situation is simple, yet complex for both teams. Both teams need to win their final match to even have a chance at finishing second place in the group, but their opposition is going to be difficult: Croatia have the reigning champions Italy to face, while Albania have Spain. Four points would be enough to qualify for the knockouts, but two would not be. There is especially pressure on the Croatians as the 2018 FIFA World Cup finalists and 2022 third place finishers would exit this tournament very early compared to expectations, should they fail against the Italians. Both matches are set for 21.00 (CEST) on Monday, in Düsseldorf and Leipzig. #football #soccer #euro2024 #uefaeuro2024 #em2024 #croatia #hrvatska #albania #shqipërisë

🚀 UEFA EURO 2024 Kicks Off Today! ⚽🎉 Today marks the beginning of UEFA Euro 2024, and the excitement is palpable! As football fans across the globe gear up for this thrilling tournament, I wanted to share my enthusiasm and some predictions for the championship. 🏆 🇩🇪 : Predicting Germany to Emerge as Champions! With the tournament being hosted in Germany, the home advantage could play a pivotal role. Germany’s recent form has been strong, and their squad boasts a blend of experienced leaders and young talents. Special shoutout to Toni Kroos, who is coming off a UEFA Champions League victory and will be retiring from football after this tournament. His leadership and experience will be crucial for Germany’s success. Key players like Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, and Jamal Musiala are set to shine. Under Julian Nagelsmann’s dynamic tactical approach, I am expecting Germany to go deep into the tournament and potentially lift the trophy on home soil. 🇫🇷 France: A Force to Be Reckoned With France has consistently shown their dominance in international tournaments. Despite a few recent setbacks, their squad depth is incredible. Kylian Mbappé, now the captain, leads a team brimming with talent. With players like Antoine Griezmann and N’Golo Kanté, France remains a strong contender. In my opinion, their mix of experience and youth under Didier Deschamps’ leadership makes them a potential finalist. 🇪🇸 Spain: Consistency and Strength Spain’s tactical flexibility and technical abilities make them a very strong contender. Their recent form has been impressive, and with stars like Pedri, Rodri, and Alvaro Morata, they have a balanced team ready to challenge for the title. Coach Luis de la Fuente has developed a well-rounded squad capable of controlling matches and posing a significant threat to any opponent. 📊 Some Stats: Germany: Three wins, one draw, and one loss in their last five matches. Strong defense anchored by Rüdiger and dynamic midfield led by Kimmich. Special mention for Toni Kroos, whose up for one last dance in his last torunament as a professional footballer. France: Two wins, two draws, and one loss recently. Star player Mbappé leads with 46 goals in 77 matches for France. Spain: Consistent recent form with tactical flexibility. Key players like Pedri and Rodri bring creativity and control to the squad. Who are your picks for the finalists? Share your thoughts and enjoy the beautiful game! ⚽ #Euro2024 #Football #Germany #France #Spain #UEFA #Champions #ToniKroos #Excitement

Here are my thoughts on 🇰🇷 for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against 🇵🇸. The match is set for this evening, 20.00 (KST) at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in the nation's capital. - As Australia showed back in March in a 5-0 result, a 4-4-2 works against this opposition, but a 4-2-3-1, which has been Hong's formation of choice with Ulsan HD FC for most matches, may also be good enough if he implements it with the national team. South Korea is heavily favoured to win this match - a tried, tested, and proven formation would be highly beneficial to get the three points, and these two are reliable. - Yang Min-hyuk may be making his KNT debut as a sub, the same way Bae Jun-ho was in the June window for the match against Singapore. There is a minute chance that he starts despite his fantastic form in K League 1 and his move to Tottenham Hotspur (where he will join Son Heung-min if promoted to the top level soon), but he could against Oman if he shows promise. - Joo Min-kyu may be the one striker included, if the 4-2-3-1 is played; Son, Hwang Hee-chan / Lee Jae-sung, and Lee Kang-in could be attacking midfielders. If it is a 4-4-2, it may be Son Heung-min and Joo, or maybe even Son and Lee Kang-in. - With Kim Tae-hwan absent from Hong's list, Kim Moon-hwan might play at right back, with Seol Young-woo at left back. I put my projected Korean starting XI, and the reasons behind it, in the comments - please refer to those down below. #대한민국 #축구 #football #soccer #SouthKorea #Korea #KORPLE #AFC #WorldCup #WorldCup2026

It is a four-match Day 12 at UEFA EURO 2024, as Groups C and D are settled on Tuesday, 25. June. Here is the schedule for decision day, with eight teams, a full third of the field, taking part at four venues across Germany. 🇫🇷 FRANCE vs. POLAND 🇵🇱 (GROUP D - 18.00, DORTMUND): 🇳🇱 NETHERLANDS vs. AUSTRIA 🇦🇹 (GROUP D - 18.00, BERLIN): - France, who are 1-1-0 in Group D with a single goal for and none conceded, head to Dortmund to take on Poland, who are already eliminated at 0-0-2 with losses to the Netherlands and Austria. In the other match in Berlin, the Netherlands, who are tied for first in the group with a 1-1-0 record, take on Austria, who are 1-0-1 after losing to France by one but winning against Poland by two. A point for Austria in that match means that three teams from this group will advance to the knockout stages, but the Dutch, who can finish first in the group and currently hold the lead on goals scored, will not be an easy test. - France and Poland faced each other in the round of 16 at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with the French victors 3-1; in a way, the 0-0 draw meant that France played a role in eliminating the Poles in the second consecutive major tournament. The Netherlands and Austria played in the group stage of UEFA EURO 2020, with the end result being 2-0 to the Dutch. 🇩🇰 DENMARK vs. SERBIA 🇷🇸 (GROUP C - 21.00, MUNICH): 🏴 ENGLAND vs. SLOVENIA 🇸🇮 (GROUP C - 21.00, COLOGNE): - Denmark are 0-2-0 in the group, having drawn both of their matches with Slovenia and England. Serbia are not too far behind, having also drawn Slovenia in a late finish but losing to England on a single goal. England are the most favoured team in this group, 1-1-0 and almost certainly into the knockout stage; Slovenia, like Denmark, are also 0-2-0. There are three teams all within a point of each other, and it is possible that one of them can qualify with three draws, but if two teams with one or two points lose their matches, they are certainly eliminated from knockout football. - Denmark and Serbia played in an international friendly in March 2022, while both teams were preparing for the World Cup tournament; the Danes won by a final result of 3-0. England's last match against Slovenia was a FIFA World Cup qualifying match in 2017, a 1-0 win courtesy of a ninetieth-minute goal from Harry Kane. The last two decision days have seen epic finishes in Group A and Group B - will we see another in one of these two? #football #soccer #euro2024 #uefaeuro2024 #em2024 #germany #france #poland #polska #netherlands #holland #nederland #austria #österreich #denmark #danmark #serbia #srbija #србија #england #slovenia #slovenija

Russia’s World Cup hopes still alive despite FIFA ban — Russian football chief "Change is in the air and I am expecting the tide to turn next year regarding the return of all our national teams and football clubs to the international arena," Alexander Dyukov said MOSCOW, December 20/ There is still a chance that Russia could play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Alexander Dyukov, the president of the Russian Football Union (RFU), told journalists on Friday. "For us to participate in the World Cup qualifiers, FIFA and UEFA would need to rescind the decisions made at the end of February 2022," Dyukov said. "Those decisions have not been reversed, meaning we can’t participate in the Final Draw. However, as long as the matches haven’t started, there is still a chance." "Change is in the air and I am expecting the tide to turn next year regarding the return of all our national teams and football clubs to the international arena," Dyukov added as he vowed to run for another presidential term of the Russian Football Union (RFU). "We’ve seen individual athletes participate in international competition recently, and this is a positive sign that similar bans for Russian football might soon be lifted," Dyukov said. Last month, 27 Russian swimmers were granted the right to participate as neutrals in the 2024 World Aquatics Championship (25m), which took place in Budapest, Hungary, on December 10-15. In addition, the International Skating Union also greenlighted the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in the qualifying competitions for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Italy. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States. The matches will be played in 16 various cities of the co-hosting countries. This will be the first FIFA World Cup featuring 48 teams compared to the previous 32-team format. Russia hosted its first and only FIFA World Cup in 2018. The championship took place at 12 stadiums in 11 cities across Russia, namely in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Samara. #business #finance #financialservices
