Language is also a factor for green. Computers use ONLY half of the resources to process data in Chinese than the resources to process data in English. For example, the name of the capital city of China in English is "Beijing", costs 7 bytes in memory storage. If in Chinese, it is "北京‘’, costs ONLY 4 bytes of memory. A basic Chinese sentence to explain what I am doing at some place costs ONLY 16 bytes of memory, while in English, it will cost at least 49 bytes.
To contribute to a sustainable world, #Huawei will continue undertaking ICT innovations in 3 areas: 💚 Building green ICT infrastructure 💚 Accelerating development of renewables 💚 Enabling energy-efficient & low-carbon industries #BetterTogether #HuaweiAnswers #CommentsOfTheWeek

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has invested $18.5 million in Team Telecom Armenia’s first sustainability-linked bond (SLB). ADB’s investment in the up to $75 million issuance supports the company’s plans to expand its digital infrastructure and advance Armenia’s climate, information and communications technology, and economic goals. Team Telecom Armenia’s bond issuance will fund critical upgrades to mobile and broadband infrastructure across Armenia, increasing internet speeds, coverage, and reliability, particularly in underserved urban and rural areas. This financial instrument also aligns with Armenia’s commitment to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030. Team Telecom Armenia’s groundbreaking bond is the first of its kind in Armenia and will be listed on the Armenia Stock Exchange, setting a precedent for corporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) bond issuances in the country. Sustainalytics provided the Sustainable Development Goal-aligned second-party opinion for the issuance which includes sustainability performance targets focusing on a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2029, with an interim target of 20% reduction by 2027 by funding projects to improve energy efficiency, promote renewable energy, and reduce emissions across Team Telecom Armenia's operations. I'm seeing increased interest in electricity wheeling among South African businesses. The appeal is clear: it offers the potential for significant cost savings on electricity expenses, allows access to renewable energy without the complexities of on-site installations, and provides a measure of energy security by reducing reliance on our strained national grid. For businesses looking to optimise operations and meet sustainability goals, wheeling presents an intriguing opportunity. Vodacom's recent "virtual wheeling" agreement with Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd shows promise, potentially opening doors for businesses with multiple sites across municipalities. However, it's important to note: 🔋 Legal frameworks are still evolving 🔋 Implementation may vary by municipality 🔋 Long-term commercial sustainability is being tested Despite challenges, wheeling represents a step towards a more flexible, sustainable energy future for SA businesses. Thoughts on how this could reshape our corporate energy landscape? [Full article in comments] #energywheeling #SouthAfricanbusiness #sustainability #renewableenergy #SOLProp

The insights from Dr. Mirza Sadaqat Huda regarding #Malaysia's capacity to meet the #energy demands driven by #data centres highlight several key points about the country's energy #resilience and #potential for regional cooperation. Here are some thoughts on the article: 1) Energy #Resources: It's encouraging to hear that Malaysia has considerable energy resources to support the growing demand for data centres. This positions Malaysia as a strong player in the #Southeast Asian energy landscape, especially as the region increasingly turns to digital transformation and data reliance. 2) Regional #Cooperation: Dr. Mirza's emphasis on regional cooperation and the importance of the Asean Power #Grid is essential. By sharing resources, countries can enhance energy #security, manage #supply fluctuations, and ensure a #stable energy supply for industries like data centres. This #collaboration can lead to a more integrated and #sustainable energy network across Southeast #Asia. 3) Bi-directional #Power Grids: The call for bi-directional power #grids is particularly noteworthy. These grids can facilitate the integration of #renewable energy sources, which often have #variable generation profiles. By allowing energy to flow both ways, the region can improve energy #efficiency and #reliability, particularly as the share of renewables in the energy #mix increases. 4) #Investment in Data Centres: The substantial investments from #tech giants such as #Google, #Nvidia, #Microsoft, and #AWS indicate strong confidence in Malaysia's #infrastructure and #economic potential. This #influx of #capital not only bolsters the #economy but also enhances #job creation and #technological development. 5) #Challenges Ahead: While the prospects are optimistic, Dr. Mirza pointed out significant challenges, such as #financial constraints and regulatory gaps, that need to be addressed to fully realize the potential of the #Asean Power Grid. These issues must be carefully managed to ensure the grid's effectiveness and sustainability. 6) #Inclusivity and #Sustainability: Malaysia's upcoming chairmanship theme of "Inclusivity and Sustainability" reflects a forward-thinking approach that acknowledges the need for #equitable distribution of resources and benefits derived from the Asean Power Grid and economic integration. Ensuring that all member states can benefit from these developments will be crucial for long-term stability and growth. Overall, this article underscores Malaysia's strategic positioning in the region's energy and #technology sector while also highlighting the importance of cooperation and innovation in addressing upcoming challenges. As the demand for data services grows, the successful implementation of these insights could lead to enhanced regional resilience and sustainability in energy management. https://lnkd.in/gBhSNNfh

There's a lot of potential to expand renewables growth in the ASEAN region by enabling this cross border trade. It will be interesting to see how investments in grid connectivity help economies with abundant solar, wind, hydro and geothermal resources export clean energy to others.
Download our open source model of the ASEAN Power Grid, TZ-APG, and accompanying report ‘From Vision to Voltage’ now ➡️ transitionzero.org/tz-apg 🔢 TZ-APG is a continuously updated model focused on transmission and dispatch across the ASEAN region. It drills down to subnational level data, and can help address fast-emerging questions on regional grid connectivity. 🔋 The model is built on PyPSA with best-in-class spatial resolution: 24-nodes, with all ten ASEAN countries represented by at least one node. 🌏 Our first model run demonstrates how a shared grid can support national decarbonization targets and secure reliable energy for the region, home to ~8% of the world’s population. ⌚ Join a webinar with Akbar Dwi W. from the ASEAN Centre for Energy and Victor Nian from the Centre for Strategic Energy and Resources (CSER) to discover TZ-APG’s methodology and review the results of the model’s first run with our expert analysts Thu Vu, Isabella Suarez, Abhishek Shivakumar and CEO & Co-founder Matt Gray. ⏰ Webinar: 5 December, 8-9am GMT / 4-5pm SGT Register to attend → https://lnkd.in/e4WMEZNx #PyPSA #opensource #energytransition
