Urban Designer | Visual Communication Designer | EDUCATOR at Architecture Candy

Few months back me Maitry Patel teamed up for an Urban Design Idea stage competition. The challenge was to propose small-scale, low-cost interventions that could transform a chaotic junction into a vibrant safe space in the community. But beyond the design itself, one crucial aspect captured our attention: the roadmap to implementation. This competition led me to research a bit about overall process of bringing design ideas to life. The roadmap we developed is a general framework that captures the typical journey of a design proposal. As an urban designer, this exploration proved invaluable. It highlighted several key takeaways that now inform my approach: -Beyond Aesthetics: Designing for Functionality: Great design isn't just about beauty. It's about understanding how people will use a space and creating solutions that address their needs. -High Impact, Low Cost: Creativity thrives within constraints. By prioritizing low-cost interventions, we can unlock the potential to create significant positive change without breaking the bank. -User-Centric Focus: The users are at the heart of every successful design. Identifying the pressing issues faced by the community allows us to prioritize solutions with the greatest impact. This competition wasn't just about winning; it was about understanding the power of placemaking and the importance of a well-defined roadmap to get ideas off the drawing board and into the real world. However, we are happy that it’s selected for next stage 🙂 #placemakingindia #urbandesignindia
