There are over 7,298 data engineers in Germany, with the number growing by 12% in the past year. From my conversations in the industry, a few trends are emerging. Tech Adaptability - Data engineers skilled in cloud technologies and machine learning are in demand, with businesses needing more agility in their data infrastructure. Cross-Industry Demand - It’s not just tech. Finance, Manufacturing, and Healthcare are building stronger data pipelines to harness the power of data. Specialisation - Companies are rewarding deep expertise in areas like data security and pipeline optimisation. It’s exciting to see this growth. If you’re a data engineer in Germany, or if you hire data engineers, I’d love to chat about these trends. Your insights would be invaluable! #DataEngineering #TechTrends #DataInnovation #GermanyTech #HiringInsights

My Journey from Mobile Phone Technician to Data Analyst: Bridging the Gap Between Tech and Data Transitioning from a seasoned mobile technician to a junior data analyst has been an incredible journey, blending my hands-on experience with technology and my newfound passion for data. For over four years, I immersed myself in mobile technology, diagnosing issues, repairing devices, and ensuring customers are left with fully functional phones and smiles on their faces. During this time, I honed my problem-solving skills, developed a keen eye for detail, and cultivated a deep understanding of how technology impacts everyday life. But as I worked with devices day in and day out, I began to see patterns—trends in the types of issues customers were facing, correlations between device models and common problems, and even seasonal spikes in repair requests. This sparked my curiosity and led me to ask: What if I could dive deeper into this data? What stories could the numbers tell? This curiosity drove me to explore the field of data analytics. I started learning independently, took courses, learnt from alx_africa and applying what I learned to real-world projects. It wasn’t long before I realized that data analysis was more than just a skill—it was a way to combine my technical background with my desire to uncover insights and make data-driven decisions. In my journey as a junior data analyst, I’ve been able to leverage my technical background to approach data with a unique perspective. Whether it’s cleaning messy datasets, building visualizations in Power BI, or writing SQL queries, my experience as a mobile technician has equipped me with the resilience and problem-solving mindset needed to tackle complex data challenges. One of my proudest moments was when I investigated access to basic water services (aligned with SDG Goal 6) in several West African countries. By analyzing various datasets, I was able to highlight significant disparities in access to clean water, which provided valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders. This project not only deepened my understanding of data's impact on social issues but also reinforced my commitment to using data for positive change. This journey from mobile technician to data analyst has taught me that every experience, no matter how different, can be a steppingstone to something greater. I’m excited to continue this path, learning and growing as I uncover the stories hidden within the data. If you’re considering a career shift or looking to break into data analytics, remember that your unique background is your strength. Whether you’re coming from a technical, creative, or business background, the skills you’ve gained along the way are valuable assets in the world of data. Let’s connect and share our journeys—I’d love to hear how others have navigated their career transitions and the lessons they’ve learned along the way! #Dataanalyst #growth #career

In very exciting news, I'm hiring the City & County of SF's 4th Chief Data Officer. This role leads the DataSF team (6 engineers, data scientists, & program folks), the SF open data program, & citywide data sharing & practice. https://lnkd.in/ggmj67Ve The CDO reports directly to me, & DataSF is part of our 48-person Digital & Data Services team in the City Administrator's office. We're a friendly & diverse team with people from many professional backgrounds. CAO is a general, but very forward-thinking office led by the excellent Carmen Chu (don't approach her about this please! just telling you I love working for her). It's a great place to form partnerships, & DataSF works with many permitting, safety, & critical services departments as well as the Dept of Technology, Controller's Office, & Mayor's Office of Innovation. Couple things you should know: - this is a hybrid job that requires one day per week in-office in downtown SF. Sorry we can’t do remote, but it’s for a pretty cool reason - SF deputizes all City employees as disaster service workers in case of an earthquake/etc. So you need to be near. - from the posting, you need to meet the minimum qualifications (5 years managing programs with data & 3 years managing professional staff) but you don’t need to meet all of the desired qualifications - though of course if you do, tell us! In applying for govt jobs, it’s worth taking a minute to make sure your resume & cover letter respond directly to the parts of the job description you meet. We don’t use AI reviews, but we do have non-technical HR folks. So please, spell out your management exp, for example. If you have broad data experience, some of it technical, policy chops, an informed perspective on AI & emerging tech, ability to present & influence at an exec level & are a great, caring manager & senior peer, we'd love to see your application!
