Living with OCD is quite the experience. When we feel as if we’ve reached the pinnacle of recovery, it’s only time before we inevitably become triggered again. This could mean an environmental factor triggers our OCD to flare, or the theme that our OCD revolves around morphs completely. Through our OCD recovery journey, it is important to remember that progress will never be linear. A great mental tool to utilize is to expect the unexpected. This can be interpreted in a multitude of ways, but most importantly to never stop working on your recovery. Even when we are feeling “good”, we should be utilizing our toolkit on a daily basis. This toolkit includes accepting our thoughts for what they are, limiting self judgment, and allowing thoughts to come and go as they please. These tools are hard to master, and take consistency, but they are worth the conscious effort. Continue to show up for yourself every day, and the results will follow! 🤍 #ocd #ocdsucks #ocdrecovery #ocdsupport #ocdawareness

OCD Awareness Week aims to raise understanding and awareness of OCD. OCD involves obsessions (intrusive, repetitive and unwanted thoughts) and compulsions (sometimes called rituals) that can significantly interfere with daily life, work or relationships. Some people have obsessive thoughts without having any compulsions. Others have compulsions without knowing why they feel the need to do them. If you feel you have obsessions and compulsions that are interfering with your day to day life, talk to you GP in the first instance. #OCDWeek

OCD is often belittled, trivialised or seen as a joke. The reality is it is none of those. My reality of experiencing OCD is all encompassing, overwhelming, draining and restrictive. It takes over everything and becomes the priority over everything and I mean everything. My therapist and I have done several videos exploring my experience. These are no frills. videos, in that they are open, honest, unplanned, unscripted and real. https://lnkd.in/eNJXHkYn https://lnkd.in/ejvfb5UV https://lnkd.in/eghNyC4Y https://lnkd.in/eACsWv3Z

#OvercomingOCD - Q&A with Shannon about OCD Recovery - "It means you like it . . . " (Not) Q: "Sometimes I'm not so bothered or anxious about my thoughts, but then my OCD tells me, 'If you're not anxious, this means that you like your thoughts or you like that particular bad outcome (ex. I will lose my family, etc).' How do you deal with this kind of threat?" Anonymous A: I believe the most effective strategy is the simplest strategy. One of OCD's greatest tricks is to tell you that your willingness to allow a thought to be present, to be indifferent to a thought, or to not have a reaction to a thought, actually means something bad; for example, that you really must, like or want or thought or that it means you really are an uncaring monster of a human being, or that the bad thought must be true. What did I do? I treated these thoughts as coming from OCD, allowed them to be there, and refused to give the thoughts (and the spike of anxiety) an emotional, mental, or physical response. "It's just OCD trying to lure me into another trap." You're okay. Keep moving forward. Don't take the bait. https://lnkd.in/gqnqbpYA #OCD can be defeated. I'm with you. Let's go.
