It’s #OperationSafeDriverWeek! Transportation safety is an imperative to our new initiative, Move Our World Forward, and it takes all of us to keep our roads safe. As we celebrate, here are four safety tips for pedestrians. Tip #1: Use a crosswalk whenever possible. Remember the age-old saying, ‘look left, right, then left again”? Make sure you can see oncoming traffic from both directions, and try to make eye contact with the drivers before stepping into the road. Tip #2: Keep your eyes up and your phone away. Avoiding distractions doesn’t just apply to drivers. Crashes and fatalities due to distracted walking are a real concern. Stay aware of your surroundings by looking up and not down at your phone. Tip #3: Know which direction to travel safely based on modality. If you’re walking or running and there is no sidewalk available, you should face oncoming traffic. If you’re biking or on a scooter, travel in the same direction as traffic and follow all posted traffic laws. Tip #4: Teach your children safe walking habits. Be a role model for safe pedestrian behavior. Whether it’s getting on the school bus or running after a ball that rolled into the street, it’s incredibly important that our children understand how to stay safe near traffic. https://lnkd.in/eHt-U5sw

🚶♀️🚶♂️HAPPY TRANSPORTATION TUESDAY🚸 Today's Topic: National Pedestrian Safety Month October is National Pedestrian Safety Month! If you are participating in the #weekwithoutdriving challenge, you may be experiencing the roads in a new way this week.🦽🚲 Pedestrian safety isn’t just a matter of caution—it’s a matter of life and death. Every day, people of all ages walk to school, work, or just to enjoy the outdoors. However, with increasing traffic, distracted driving, and poorly designed streets, these everyday activities can become dangerous. Pedestrian safety matters because every person deserves to reach their destination safely. Pedestrian Safety Tips from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA): For Drivers: 🚗Look out for pedestrians everywhere and at all times 🚗Use extreme caution when driving in conditions that are hard to see 🚗Slow down and be prepared to stop when nearing a crosswalk 🚗Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and stop far away to allow other vehicles to see crossing pedestrians and never pass vehicles that are stopped at a crosswalk 🚗Follow the speed limit, especially around people on the street, in school zones, and in neighborhoods Pedestrians: 🚸Follow the rules of the road and obey signals and signs 🚸Walk on sidewalks whenever possible. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as much as possible 🚸Cross streets at sidewalks or intersections, and make sure to look for cars in all directions 🚸Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways or parking lots Resource: https://lnkd.in/eHWHVkR

### Definition of "Speed Hump": A **speed hump** is a gradual, rounded raised section on a road designed to slow down traffic. Unlike speed bumps, which are more abrupt, speed humps have a gentler slope, making them less jarring to drive over but still effective in reducing vehicle speeds. They are typically used in residential areas and near schools to enhance safety. ### Example Sentences: 1. The city council decided to install speed humps in the neighborhood to calm traffic. 2. Speed humps are less jarring than speed bumps but still encourage drivers to slow down. 3. The new park entrance has speed humps to protect pedestrians crossing the road. 4. They installed speed humps on the road leading to the school to ensure the safety of students. 5. The speed hump was painted with bright yellow stripes to make it visible to drivers. 6. He reduced his speed significantly when he saw the sign indicating a speed hump ahead. 7. The residents requested speed humps to reduce the speed of cars passing through their street. 8. The delivery van had to carefully navigate the speed humps to avoid disturbing the cargo. 9. Speed humps were added to the parking lot to prevent cars from driving too fast. 10. The driver was grateful for the speed hump as it forced him to slow down and avoid an accident. ### Hashtags: #SpeedHump #TrafficCalming #RoadSafety #SlowDown #ResidentialSafety #SchoolZone #PedestrianSafety #DrivingCarefully #RoadFeatures #NeighborhoodSafety These hashtags emphasize the role of speed humps in promoting safety and managing traffic speed in various areas.

At some point in the day, everyone is a pedestrian. October is Road Safety Month and we wanted to take a moment to refresh our followers on key pedestrian safety tips 👇 Crossing the street (At pedestrian crossings)🚶♀️ - Cross only at marked pedestrian crosswalks or crossovers. - Cross only when the driver has fully stopped. - Hold your hand out in front of you indicating you are waiting to cross the road. - Make sure drivers see you before you cross. At a traffic light 🚦 - Cross when traffic has come to a complete stop. - Begin to cross at the start of the green light or “walk” signal, where it is present. - Don’t begin crossing if you see a flashing “do not walk” symbol or the light turns yellow. - Watch for traffic turning at intersections or turning into and leaving driveways. Railway crossings 🚋 - As you come to a railway crossing, listen and look both ways before crossing the tracks. - Never walk on the gravel roads or green space alongside railway crossings. - Keep your distance as trains are wider than the tracks. ♿Wheelchairs and scooters are designed for people who have limited mobility because of a medical condition or injury. They are considered as pedestrians under the Highway Traffic Act. Most municipalities have bylaws about where wheelchairs can and can't be used. #RoadSafetyMonth #PedestrianSafety #SafeCrossing #TrafficSafety #StreetSmart #WalkSafe #RoadAwareness #PedestrianTips

𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝘁 𝗭𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀! 🚸 I've been observing a worrying trend for some time now: drivers in London frequently fail to stop at zebra crossings. This disregard for pedestrian safety prompted me to conduct a little experiment. I intentionally stood at a zebra crossing to see how many drivers would stop. Shockingly, many did not, and the picture below shows a lorry that completely ignored me and continued driving while I stood there. This is particularly concerning because many of us have young children walking to school. Ensuring their safety should be a top priority. Unfortunately, many of us are often distracted and not focused while driving, which exacerbates the issue. I know that you, reading this, are most likely not the problem, but maybe someone else might read this and become more self-aware Here are some practical tips for drivers to help improve safety at zebra crossings: 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀: 1. 𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵: - As you approach a zebra crossing, reduce your speed. 2. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁: - Be attentive and watch for pedestrians waiting to cross. 3. 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆: - If you see a pedestrian waiting to cross, stop well before the crossing. 4. 𝗪𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆: - Allow pedestrians to cross the entire width of the road before you move off. 5. 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: - Never overtake another vehicle that has stopped at a zebra crossing. 6. 𝗕𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: - In conditions like rain, fog, or darkness, be extra cautious. 7. 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀: - Encourage fellow drivers to follow these rules. Share these tips to help make our roads safer for everyone. By following these steps, we can ensure that zebra crossings serve their purpose—providing a safe place for pedestrians to cross. Share this with others, Again as I said most likely, 𝗬𝗼𝘂 are not the problem but someone might just read this and become more self-aware! #RoadSafety #DrivingTips #PedestrianSafety #LondonTraffic #ZebraCrossing #CommunitySafety

🚧 Road safety starts with awareness, courtesy, and caution. When navigating through work zones slow down and move over if necessary. Remember, these areas often involve low-speed construction vehicles entering and exiting driving lanes. Stay vigilant for bicyclists and motorcyclists sharing the road. Show consideration and exercise patience as you navigate through diverse traffic scenarios. Be prepared to share the road harmoniously with others. When encountering larger vehicles, steer clear of their blind spots, provide them with adequate room, and remember that the faster a larger vehicle moves, the longer it takes to stop. When approaching school buses, exercise extra caution. Decrease your speed, anticipate the presence of children in the vicinity, and be ready to stop if warning lights are flashing. By staying alert and considerate, we can collectively ensure safer roads for all. 🚸🚲🚗 #SafetyAwareness #DriveSafely #SlowDownMoveOver #GuardianFleetServices #GuardianoftheHighways #Towing #TowingandRecovery #SpecializedTransport #SpecializedTransportation #TowLife

Large trucks and buses need more room to make turns. If a large vehicle is stopped at an intersection or about to turn right, you should step back from the curb and wait for them to turn before continuing ahead.
