🌟 Grateful for an amazing 3-day event at #MISHRM last week! 🌟 The conference was packed with networking opportunities and insightful discussions on the latest HR trends. Here are some of my key takeaways: 🔹 Embrace AI: Don’t fear it! Understand how AI can enhance the candidate and team member experience. Big shoutout to Shawna Hondorp for the insights and engaging discussion! 🤖✨ 🔹 Intentional Play: Incorporating play at work can significantly boost engagement. Thanks, Carly Smyly, MSOP, for the important reminder! 🎉🏢 🔹 Active Listening: One of the most crucial skills in HR is being a better listener. 👂💬 🔹 Be a Gardener, Not a Mechanic: Take a holistic approach to nurturing and empowering your team members rather than just fixing problems. 🌱🔧

One of the most important tools for retaining top talent and fostering a productive workplace is employee recognition. I always try to use the FAIR method as mentioned in the link below, when I’m giving my new hires and colleagues recognition. Framing the situation, providing a clear background to ensure the recognition is tied to specific efforts are very important! No vague recognition statements. https://lnkd.in/ew7fxtSv

Do you feel taken for granted in your HR role? Do you struggle to get you contribution recognised? You are not alone. In a recent poll 39 % of HR people who responded wanted to improve their visibility and feel more valued in their role. It's a tough ask when a lot of your work is confidential. I don’t know about you, but I got so used to playing dumb that it was often easier to keep quiet than promote myself and my work. But what is the cost of that? In my experience quite a lot. ❌No-one sees what you are contributing 🤷♀️You can’t get recognition for things people don’t know about 😡You feel under-valued and get a bit cynical 🗣️People see you as not contributing much or as a bit cynical If you want to make your work more visible without boasting or breaking any confidences join us for a free webinar for HR professionals. It will be at 12pm on Wednesday 24th April 2024. Feel free to bring your lunch.

Day 3 of 30: HR Abbreviations Every Professional Must Know Abbreviation: DEIJB Full Meaning: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging Diversity: Embraces the variety of perspectives, experiences, and identities in the workplace, including race, gender, age, religion, and more. Equity: Focuses on creating fair systems that ensure all individuals have access to opportunities and resources based on their unique needs. Inclusion: Ensures that every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute fully. Justice: Actively dismantles systemic barriers, policies, and practices that disadvantage marginalized groups. Belonging: Fosters an environment where everyone feels like they truly belong and can thrive as their authentic selves. 📌Why It Matters (My Take): As someone passionate about fostering inclusive workplaces, I’ve seen firsthand how embedding DEIJB into company culture can transform teams. It enhances employee well-being, sparks innovation, and attracts top talent while also driving a deeper sense of purpose. DEIJB isn’t just a box to check; it’s a lens through which we create lasting impact. 📌Pro Tip: For HR Professionals: Pair data with dialogue. Regularly review workplace demographics and pair this with employee listening sessions to refine your strategy. For Leaders: Measure progress, not just promises. Embed DEIJB goals into leadership KPIs to drive accountability. For Everyone: Champion allyship. Simple acts of support and advocacy can make a big difference. 🙋♀️Here’s How I’m Taking Action: I’m proud to be part of initiatives that promote justice and belonging in our workplace. This isn’t always easy, but it’s so rewarding to see the impact on people and processes alike. If you’re working on a DEIJB framework, I’d love to exchange ideas or share resources! 👉How does your organization approach DEIJB? Are there standout programs or challenges you’ve faced? Let’s share and learn from each other in the comments! ~JK🫶 #HR #InclusiveWorkplaces #DEIJB #HRNewbies #HRPros #30daysofHRAbbreviation

Straight from my Heart : Human First In the world of HR, there’s an odd fascination with shiny trophies and glowing LinkedIn posts about “Top HR Award of the Year.” But let’s take a moment to ask, do these awards actually reflect the real value HR brings to an organization? Spoiler alert: Probably not. Instead of measuring an HR professional’s worth by their mantle of accolades, why not look at the trail of employee relationships they’ve nurtured? True HR excellence is seen in how employees feel on their first day, how they’re supported on their worst day, and how they’re treated on their last day. If an HR person has a LinkedIn inbox full of heartfelt “thank yous” from employees both current and ex, that’s the award worth celebrating. Did they make exit processes smooth, respectful, and dignified? Did they act as a bridge rather than a barrier when employees needed help? Sure, awards are nice. They sparkle. They photograph well. But employees don’t remember how many plaques their HR had on the wall. They remember how they were treated whether HR was a human shield or just a robotic policy enforcer. So, HRs, aim for trophies that don’t need a showcase. Earn the kind of reputation that makes people say, “They truly had my back.” That’s the real win. #HumanFirst #TreatPeopleWell #HRWithHeart #LeadershipMatters

It was wonderful to have shared this moment with my teammates while at the SHRM Annual Conference & Expo 2024. It was a pleasure to meet and listen to Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP and his message regarding A Storm Coming for HR. Reflecting on Johnny’s speech it's clear that he sees a transformative storm approaching for HR professionals. The metaphorical cyclone represents several significant challenges: 1) AI and Work Transformation; 2) Job Displacement and Reskilling; and 3) Incivility and Inclusion Challenges: Rising incivility and the need for greater inclusion, equity, and diversity (IE&D) pose critical challenges. HR's role in fostering a respectful and inclusive workplace will be pivotal. The call to "run toward" these challenges signifies a proactive approach. It encourages HR professionals not to shy away from the impending changes but to confront them head-on with courage and leadership. Embracing these changes, will deepen HR's impact on organizations and society at large. Ultimately, the message challenges HR professionals to reflect on their readiness for these impending shifts. It calls for a collective effort to navigate these storms, emphasizing the importance of resilience, adaptability, and proactive leadership in preparing for the future of work. Glad to be a part of a team that’s doing this work! La Nise Hagan, SHRM-CP Komal Ram, SHRM-CP #SHRM24 #skillsfirsthiring #HR #humanresources

Consider investing in employee talent internally instead of recruiting externally. This is a very strategic approach that can lead to improved employee satisfaction, retention, and overall organizational success. There are few things that can you with you this process: Assess the skills and competencies needed for current and future roles within the organization and identify the skills gap that exist among current employees. Provide access to workshops, training, courses, and certifications relevant to their roles and career goals.
