"With generative AI, tech just walked straight into some very mature arenas of law, like copyright and consumer protection, where the ‘move fast and break things’ mentality might just run straight into a wall of ‘massive legal liability.’" We kinda know that already but this article, shared by Jay, neatly captures the major issue we have today with regards AI: blitzscaling and a corresponding abrogation of responsibility in the name of progress.
The latest Off Kilter newsletter from Paul Worthington is a fantastic read. Covering 'blitzscaling, AI and its failures', it focuses on how blitzscaling (the headlong race for scale to lock out competition, despite product limitations and realistic revenue opportunities) is defining how today's AI companies are going to market. It's also why we're seeing a lot of the problems that come along with it. Paul covers 10 of these issues — from the insane energy AI requires and the use of underpaid human labour through to copyright complexity and the fact that hallucinations are feature, not a bug.
