The Group's number-one priority is to achieve the “zero accident” objective for all people working on its construction and operations sites. This is one of the commitments in our Manifesto: https://lnkd.in/e9vFhyBj The Group's health and safety policy is overarching and aims to anticipate and prevent all occupational risks and psychosocial risks. It also aims to ensure quality of life in the workplace and the redeployment of employees who have suffered a workplace accident or occupational illness. ⛑️ In the field, the accident prevention programme is managed by a network of over 2,800 health and safety employees. Group companies implement strict procedures and multiple systems to ensure their employee's safety: - upstream risk analysis ; - circulation of safety guidelines ; - 15-minutes safety sessions that bring together all individuals involved at a worksite - reporting and analysis of near misses and accidents to identify their root causes, and training tailored to the industry, type of worksite and operational context.

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) involves practices and regulations designed to protect workers' health and safety across all industries, not just high-risk sectors like mining and construction. It includes risk assessments, safety training, workplace standards, health programs, and incident reporting. For example, Recent incidents involving football players, referees, and media crews highlight the need for OHS to expand beyond traditional sectors. These workers face physical injuries, mental health issues, and unique risks that should be addressed with tailored safety measures. Safety officers should think "outside the box" by developing sport-specific safety programs, promoting mental health awareness, conducting risk assessments for non-industrial sectors, and utilizing advanced equipment to improve safety in these environments. What are your thoughts… lets discuss!!!

This 2024 incident report from IPAF is exceptional. For the first time it is truly digital and interactive allowing you to get the information you need to keep you and your teams safe when using MEWPs. The HSE released "Work-related fatal injuries in Great Britain, 2024", their report yesterday (3rd July) and the difference between these two reports is stark. The IPAF report is directly useful and provides insight that can be applied to reduce the liklihood of these incidents happening again. The HSE document however does not contain this sort of useful information or any meaningful analysis. I urge the HSE to update their approach to reporting and see this as an example of how to make reporting useful. https://lnkd.in/eu4MyNyB

In the chemical industry, confined spaces pose significant safety risks that must be managed with diligence and care. These spaces, which may include tanks, silos, sewers, and pipelines, often contain hazardous substances and present unique challenges for workers. Ensuring safety in these environments is paramount, and it requires a comprehensive approach that encompasses risk assessment, training, monitoring, and emergency preparedness. The first step in maintaining safety in confined spaces is conducting a thorough risk assessment. This process involves identifying potential hazards such as toxic gases, low oxygen levels, and flammable materials. By understanding these risks, companies can implement appropriate safety measures tailored to the specific conditions of each confined space. A vital component of confined space safety is the establishment of a permit-to-work system. This system ensures that safety protocols are followed rigorously before any personnel enter a confined space. Only trained individuals should be permitted access, and the system acts as a critical checkpoint to verify that all necessary precautions are in place. Continuous monitoring of air quality is essential during operations within confined spaces. Utilizing gas detection systems allows for real-time monitoring of atmospheric conditions, ensuring that any dangerous changes are detected immediately. Additionally, having emergency response teams on standby prepares organizations to act swiftly in the event of an incident. Training and awareness play crucial roles in confined space safety. Regular training sessions equip workers with the knowledge needed to recognize hazards and understand emergency procedures. A well-informed workforce is essential for fostering a culture of safety and vigilance, which ultimately reduces the likelihood of accidents. Equipping personnel with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is another critical safety measure. The PPE must be tailored to address the specific hazards present in the confined space, ensuring that workers are adequately protected from potential risks. Finally, emergency preparedness cannot be overlooked. A clear emergency response plan should be established, detailing the steps to take in various scenarios. Conducting drills ensures that all team members are familiar with their roles and responsibilities during an emergency, further enhancing safety. In conclusion, confined space safety in the chemical industry is a multifaceted issue that requires a proactive and comprehensive approach. By prioritizing risk assessment, implementing a permit-to-work system, continuously monitoring conditions, providing thorough training, ensuring proper PPE usage, and preparing for emergencies, organizations can create a safer work environment. Ultimately, fostering a culture of safety not only protects employees but also enhances operational efficiency and morale.

🚨 𝐋𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲: 𝐀 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐞𝐞! 🚨 In this video, you'll see a worker standing on a straight ladder about 2 meters off the ground, performing electrical work. Unfortunately, no one was securing the base of the ladder, and suddenly, the ladder slipped out from underneath him. 😮 Luckily, he managed to grab onto a roof rail, preventing a dangerous fall. His colleagues rushed over to help him down safely. But what if he hadn’t been so lucky? The outcome could have been a serious injury—or worse. This incident is a stark reminder of why ladder safety is critical in every workplace. Here are a few essential tips to keep in mind: 🔸 𝐀𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞: Have a colleague hold the base of the ladder to prevent slipping. 🔸 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟒:𝟏 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞: For every 4 feet of ladder height, place the base 1 foot away from the wall. 🔸 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞: Ensure the ground is stable and level before setting up the ladder. 🔸 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝: Keep your body centered between the rails to avoid losing balance. 🔸 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐭: Keep two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand, on the ladder at all times. 🚧 Let’s not wait for close calls to remind us about safety. Prioritize ladder safety at your workplace and ensure your team knows these critical tips! 👉 What safety measures do you follow when working on ladders?
