Six months back, I got laid off from the company I loved dearly, and, oh boy, I was heart broken. IT WAS NOT A TRANSITION It was done on a call that was meant for sprint-planning. Email, slack and everything was turned off that very minute. Why do companies need to be this brutal? I’m not the one who keeps his options open. When I worked at SELF ID, Inc. (or for any other company I have worked at) I never kept my options open, always turning down for people who are trying to poach me. Just being 100% committed to my workplace. Maybe that was my mistake? I was there since the inception of the product, I wrote the first line of code it which eventually got multi million dollar funding and I cared for it like it was my child. Maybe that was my mistake? Well, I don’t think I am out of the shock of it, I don’t think I ever will. This will be part of myself, forever. That taught me, importance of Empathy. No one should go though what I and others have gone through. I’m just sharing my experience here and I want to be vulnerable, that’s what makes u human, right? I’m not doing some crazy ass work at some crazy workplace, I am bootstrapping my own product because nothing else worked, and here I am spending my savings on building something that would help me build a stronger portfolio and better connections. Never give up
1moHi Vigas! First things first: It’s absolutely NOT your mistake to have been loyal or to have cared deeply for what you helped build. That dedication is rare and admirable, and it shows the depth of your commitment—qualities every company needs but too often overlooks. The way you're channeling this experience into creating your own product and building connections is impressive, and honestly, it sounds like you’re on a path with a lot more autonomy and control. Keep that spirit going strong. It’s like they say: "You can't keep a good (backend) guy down!"😉😉Go crush it at Web Summit, make those connections, and remember - Lisbon better be ready for you💯
