Euro 2024 Blockbuster: Spain 3-0 Croatia Spain has a impressive history in the European Championship, having lifted the trophy three times. They first tasted success as hosts in 1964, then again in 2008 and successfully defended their title in 2012. In contrast, Croatia’s best finishes were quarter-final appearances in 1996 and 2008. They will be eager to improve on those performances and progress further in the tournament. Group B is certainly intriguing with three powerhouses of European football – Spain, Croatia, and defending champions Italy – all vying for top spot. Albania completes the group, and while they may be considered underdogs, they will be determined to cause an upset. Day 16 of regular contents on social media 😁 Did you know that the Euro 2020 tournament, played in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was the first European Championship to be held across multiple countries? ⚽🌍 This unique format saw 11 cities in 11 different nations host matches, stretching from Baku in Azerbaijan to Glasgow in Scotland. The idea behind this pan-European tournament was to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first European Championship, held in 1960. While the concept received mixed reactions, it certainly made for an interesting logistical challenge and a truly continent-wide celebration of football. Another fascinating fact about this tournament is that it featured the highest scoring final in the history of the European Championship. Italy's victory over England in a nail-biting penalty shootout came after a 1-1 draw, bringing the total goals in the final to 2 - a record when including the decisive penalties. The Euro Cup continues to be one of the most-watched sporting events globally, showcasing not just athletic prowess but also the rich tapestry of European cultures and the unifying power of football. From underdog stories to legendary performances, each tournament adds new chapters to the beautiful game's history. #euro2020 #europeanchampionship #footballhistory #UefaEuro2024 #paneuropeantournament #soccerfacts #EuroTrivia #footballculture #sportingevents #internationalfootball #europeanfootball #footballtournament #EURO2024 #sportstrivia #footballfans #beautifulgame #SoccerHistory #europeansports #FootballHeritage #SportingAchievement

3 fixture insights you'll thank us for at the end of October. Do not plan autumn's live sport in your venue until you've cracked through this 👇 📈 𝐑𝐮𝐠𝐛𝐲 𝐈𝐧 𝐑𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 After South Africa v New Zealand emerged as the most searched-for-fixture in August, their September rematch proved it was no fluke, coming in second for last month. This trend bodes very well for TNT Sports venues as the Autumn Nations Series rolls back into town. For all the doom and gloom that often surrounds it, international rugby union has never been in a better place, with the last few years producing incredible matches, iconic moments and some positively hissing rivalries. Argentina, England, France, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa are impossible to split right now - factor in a capricious Scotland side plus a resurgent Italy and we have an abundance of the tight, ferocious, competitive fixtures that pack out pubs coming up. England v New Zealand kicks off a month of action on the 2nd November, now’s the time to get your plans in place, start talking to customers about it and get those crucial pre-bookings in. 👊 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐨 𝐀𝐥𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐳 - 𝐀 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐭 A theme we talked about in last month’s UK analysis was the consistency with which big US boxing bouts emerge as the biggest missed opportunities. That trend continued in September with Canelo Alvarez’s latest bout driving significant value for the 7 venues who purchased and advertised it on FANZO. Digging deeper (as far back as our detailed fixture data goes), the Mexican great’s last 5 fights each averaged just shy of 2000 searches for a local venue on FANZO, being funnelled into fewer than 10 UK bars showing them. Yes, they’re late-night fights. Yes, there’s a PPV cost. But if you already have the means to stay open, no other name in sport offers such consistent value in terms of fan interest for the venues that do show Canelo’s bouts. 🇦🇺 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐞 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 If the AFL Grand Final popping up second in our missed opportunities piqued your interest, the wider top ten should make fascinating reading. 6 of the 10 biggest opportunities for UK venues were AFL (Aussie Rules) or NRL (Rugby League) fixtures as Australia’s two biggest winter codes reach a crescendo each September. Bloody good insight but not something pubs can act on for another 11 months now, surely? Not so fast. This weekend’s NRL Grand Final offers one last opportunity to tap into any local ex-pat communities and generate some bonus trade on Saturday morning. And if you’re a venue attached to a hostel in a tourist hotspot, it’s got ‘free shot at the posts’ written all over it. --- Want a deeper dive into September's fixture data? Make sure you follow Pete Starr, he'll be posting some punchy analysis on the stories that emerged from this data set complete with practical implications for running sport in your venue, in the coming weeks.

Short term gain for long term risk is always a tricky one. That's the situation facing Euroleague Basketball is it considers a potentially lucrative offer from Abu Dhabi to host its showpiece event, the Euroleague Final Four. In my latest column, I examine why the short term positives are heavily outweighed by the long term consequences and missed opportunities that would come with such a move. 🏅 Taking part is everything - even in tenders? Participating in a public tender has surprisingly many parallels to the Olympic Games. Even the sporting idea can be a step towards success, because: you gain experience every time for the next time. Duel: Olympic Games vs. public tenders - Competition: The best athletes in the world compete at the Olympic Games. In public tenders, on the other hand, there are often only one to three competing companies - so there is a high chance of winning. 0️⃣❤️1️⃣ - Award: While there are three winners at the Olympic Games - gold, silver and bronze - in tenders the motto is: "The winner takes it all", because only the best offer wins. 1️⃣❤️1️⃣ - Qualification: Both athletes and companies qualify for the competition based on their performance. 2️⃣❤️2️⃣ So it's a draw! We can only keep our fingers crossed for the participants in the Olympic Games. But we are happy to support you proactively when taking part in the next tender! Secure your place on the highest winner's podium with our services. #TenderService #Tenders #OlympicGames #Competition #Paris2024

IWF chief hints at impending return of Russian weightlifters to int’l competition The IWF Executive Board decided in May 2023 to clear weightlifters from Russia and Belarus to take part in all international tournaments, with the caveat that they participate as neutrals MOSCOW, December 4/ President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Mohammed Jalood believes that Russia may be permitted to compete internationally very soon, the press office of the Russian Weightlifting Federation (RWF) announced in a statement to TASS on Wednesday. The Russian Weightlifting Federation gathered for an election conference on November 10, electing Dmitry Vasilenko as the federation’s new president, replacing the RWF’s previous chief Maxim Agapitov. "During the World Weightlifting Federation Congress in Bahrain on December 4, IWF President Mohammed Jalood extended his congratulations to Dmitry Vasilenko on his RWF presidential election win and announced that Russian weightlifters could soon return to international competition," the statement reads. "A road map on the admission of Russian athletes to the European Weightlifting Championship and the World Championship in 2025 will be drafted on December 5," the statement added. The IWF Executive Board decided in May 2023 to clear weightlifters from Russia and Belarus to take part in all international tournaments, with the caveat that they participate as neutrals. The IWF ruled back then that all athletes seeking neutral status must fill out and submit individual declarations (commitments), in which they must confirm that they currently have no contractual or other links with the armed forces, state security agencies or other structures that provide support for the special military operation in Ukraine. The Russian Weightlifting Federation rejected the proposed conditions for obtaining neutral status, slamming them as unacceptable. Russian weightlifters were barred from Olympic qualifying events, and did not compete at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. #business #finance #financialservices
