AI is changing the landscape of the healthcare sector by improving diagnoses, automating activities, and creating tailored treatments (Singh et al., 2024). AI tools find diseases at an initial stage, such as imaging systems tracing some form of tumour. Robotic surgeries are more effective due to minimising human error. NVIDIA claims - AI ‘healthcare revolution’ already under way Healthcare is probably the most impactful utility of generative AI that there will be. With generative AI, we’re going to be able to not only generate more ideas and predict with better accuracy, but we’re also going to be able to model biology in new and exciting ways so that when we put a new chemical entity into the clinic, we have a higher success rate. If you think about an ultrasound, or even robotic surgery and self-driving cars, they’re not that different. There’s lots of sensor data coming in, so there are real-time decisions being made. Generative AI will also be crucial in postoperative and follow-up medical treatment stages, such as when compiling a post-treatment report with patient data or reviewing a past surgery to assess its success. Can someone give me a bit more context around why Radiology has not been entirely revamped with AI? 🧐 I was reading a bit this morning on reddit and saw people talking about the difficulty to access radiologist, and then I saw a post with someone saying they make >1M/year working 18-20 hours a week from home. It seems to me there is some disconnect here? To add to that, in many (most?) cases I feel like AI model are exceptional at vision and at diagnostics. So would love to get some colour on why this isnt getting more traction? PS: Seems like a 3 bird 1 stone situation ... Costs would go down, diagonistic quality would go up if we augmented radiologist with AI, and availability would go drastically up.
