Venice Family Clinic’s street medicine team shone brightly at the West Side Coalition’s annual Celebrating Success Breakfast. This annual event honors the impactful contributions of our field staff and celebrated the journeys of the people we serve. This year, we nominated Peter Miller, a volunteer whose dedication has been pivotal in expanding our outreach efforts, and Mitchie, a young woman who connected with the Clinic through Safe Place for Youth. With support from Carrie Kowalski, PA-C, Mitchie has stabilized her health, has successfully transitioned into permanent housing, and is pursuing her dream of working as a performer. The event was a fantastic opportunity to reinforce our commitment to providing compassionate care for everyone, regardless of their circumstances. Congratulations to our honorees!

A little bit about Jean-Arellia Tolentino, Ph.D.- “I am: a psychologist, a researcher, a community organizer, an educator, a Filipina American, a daughter/mother/sis/partner, and the list may go on. I share this, because often therapists don’t, and to note that my work as a therapist has been cultivated from a myriad of paths taken to get through this thing called “life”. As such, I know that one’s life path can change, and depending on your context, can feel like you’re taking the same path yet have a vastly different journey and destination.” Join us at the Bukambibig Symposium (Word of Mouth) for a thought-provoking panel titled “Finding, Creating, and Cultivating Kapwa,” where we explore the power of identity, culture, community, and healing from trauma. This panel will feature influential leaders from diverse sectors, including nonprofit, healthcare, government, and technology, each bringing unique perspectives on what it means to serve and thrive in community. This conversation is more than a panel—it’s a space to reflect on how community can be a source of healing and strength. ❤️ Let’s come together to explore Kapwa and heal through community. Last month, we had a powerful session with partners from across the country to discuss a broader call to talk about collective care. The idea that we all have a role to play in the care of the nation's children and families is a practice and the wisdom that has been held by generations of communities across this country. It also turns out that it is an important strategy for the road ahead. We are all connected, our health is interdependent and so it is far past time for to build that recognition into our systems and structures. It requires us to call on our government to show up in different ways and invest in the resources and infrastructure that will enable every child to grow up in families that are well and it requires our leaders and resource decision-makers to make care a priority. So grateful to be joined by these amazing partners. Andrew Volmert, senior vice president of research at the FrameWorks Institute David Alexander, president at Leading for Kids Erica Phillips, executive director at the The National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) Child Care Julia Sosa, parent leader representative from United Parent Leaders Action Network (UPLAN) David Alexander offered his own perspective on why we must engage in collective care below. Today, the Pennine Lancashire Care Home Engagement Project Team held a session with staff from the Alzheimer’s Society, highlighting their falls prevention project and showcasing how its resources can support their work. The collaborative project, which we are involved in alongside other local services, provides information and education sessions to assist care home staff when handling falls and unwell residents. These sessions help them know how to make the right call for help when needed. Since the project launched last winter, it has already reduced ambulance conveyances to hospitals from participating care homes. At the same time, referrals to local services have increased, showing that staff are applying the advice and using the appropriate resources to provide the best possible care for their residents. The Alzheimer’s Society team left with practical tools and strategies they can use to improve their ability to support elderly people in their communities.

This week, we are featuring one of COAST's founding members and a COAST Board Member at-Large, Arnold Woodruff, MS, LMFT. We asked Mr. Woodruff about what made him join COAST, his vision of COAST's larger mission, and what he hopes other MFTs will find by joining COAST. If his thoughts resonate with you, join COAST: https://lnkd.in/gBzCyeWc 1. What made you become a founding member of COAST? [Mr. Woodruff] I got involved with COAST after the by-laws change as I was (and am) concerned about state-level information and advocacy for our profession when the existing state organizations were unsupported or taxed out of existence. 2. Describe COAST's mission in a way that feels meaningful to you. [Mr. Woodruff] The mission of COAST is to ensure a place for emerging and existing systemic therapists to go for networking, information, advocacy, and support with state and local-level knowledge and insight. 3. What would you like future COAST members to find in COAST? [Mr. Woodruff] I would like members to find a welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable home to support folks in their work as systemic therapy professionals. 4. What's one good reason more MFTs should consider joining COAST? [Mr. Woodruff] COAST remains focused on the day-to-day needs of systemic therapy professionals and students as we, as a distinct minority in numbers and theory, advance the value and visibility of our profession. #mft #systemictherapy #systemictherapists
