A very clear article with great links that assembles arguments and evidence for why unrestricted funding is the best way to fund. And in the rare cases when it’s not, that funders must then provide full cost recovery. Please share it with funders and their boards. Multi year funding is so important for the sustainability of the sector, it provides security and enables charities to focus on what they do best. Making the same organisations submit so many applications for small amounts of short term funding is not going to achieve the impact or systemic social change required. I also would like to see funders push beyond 3 yr funding cycles and consider 5 or more as a norm.

Multi-year funding is key for small charities, it allows for strategising and stability to do the long term thinking #multiyearfunding

Simple changes make a huge difference, directly and indirectly. ELMINA B SEWALL FOUNDATION we offer alternatives to a report: sending in a report created for another funder, having a conversation with the program lead, answering 3 to 4 open ended questions, or in some instances, attending a convening or small group conversation with other grantee partners where staff capture themes from the conversation. we want to learn about the field, about the organization as a whole, what opportunities and challenges they seez what trends they see and what they're excited about. we also turn the lens on ourselves as we know one of the few things we can actually control is how we impact our partners.
