A recent study by Spendesk found that the average SME in Europe (UK, France, Germany, Spain) have an average of 800 suppliers and they only use about a quarter of them. This blog discusses why (IT sprawl being a potential driving force) and how measures like asset management can help prevent or rectify vendor bloat. https://lnkd.in/gamwyTS4 In the light of this, here are my top 3 action items to begin with: 1) Conduct an audit of your suppliers A thorough assessment and review of such of all your current suppliers to identify and eliminate those that are no longer in use, necessary, too expensive, too risky etc to start streamlining your supply chain. 2) Invest in IT Asset management You need to have robust IT Asset management capabilities to discover and keep track of all software and services. Ideally you will start classifying your assets, apply tiers to them which will also help you to make better decisions about access, authorization, conditional access, patching, networking considerations and so on. 3) Make intentional decisions in regards to purchasing Before you acquire any new tools and services, evaluate existing resources in your current infrastructure, discover redundancies, ensure that integrations are delivering value as intended, and reconsider consolidation.
