You won't believe where I found marketing genius. In the rolling hills of Slovenia's wine country. Our recent team trip to Brda wasn't just about sipping wine. It was an eye-opener on authentic business practices. What I learned: Family estate Zarova: • Don't follow YouTube gurus or marketing podcasts • Yet, they're marketing masters • Their secret? Genuine storytelling and top-notch products Klet Brda: • Slovenia's biggest wine exporter • Owned by 400 local families • Proves cooperatives can be wildly successful Olive oil tasting: • Showed that passion can become a thriving business • No niche is too small if you truly care about it They excel at core business principles without ever studying them formally. They focus on quality, authenticity, and deep customer connections. It's a reminder that sometimes, the most valuable business insights come from unexpected sources. Where have you stumbled upon surprising lessons for your work?

A bad name won't ruin your business. But damn, a good name goes a long way. "Carbe Diem" gets my vote for 'best name I've seen today'. Why? 🍝 It's grounded in insights. Carb-guilt is a real thing. The trend of low-carb diets is here to stay - giving permission to ‘seize the pasta’ is a clever move. 🍝 It’s descriptive, yet creative Immediate, clear communication is so important in a grocery store environment. I think this will cut through because it’s fun too. 🍝 I wish I thought of it You know when you see something and immediately think “I wish I came up with that”. Well, you got me, Carbe Diem. What’s your take on names? How important do you think they are? ~ If you liked this post, I write regularly about FMCG marketing, follow me @ Brent Vrdoljak for more.

Someone once told me you should never onboard a client you wouldn't be comfortable having dinner with. Relationships are everything in business, especially if you're a retail store carrying other brands, or a product brand looking to get in restaurants or retailers. I always say even if a business relationship ends, you should never burn a bridge. [Image: "Transactional relationships are usually short-lived. Our goal is always to connect in a genuine sense, to make a connection, to build a relationship—ideally a friendship. Collaboration over competition. We never have an expectation of any promotion or social share." 🔍 How Small Brands Can Succeed with Focused Marketing Strategies In the competitive world of business, even smaller brands can achieve remarkable success by prioritizing their marketing goals. Two inspiring examples are CICADA Goods and Sol Cacao. Here's how they did it: CICADA Goods: Ethical Impulse Buying 🌱 CICADA Goods, known for their paraben-free, vegan candles, tapped into the power of ethical impulse buying. By focusing on eco-friendly products, hosting pop-up events like their “Valentine’s Sip and Shop Event,” and packaging candles in wildflower seed paper, they’ve built a loyal customer base that values sustainability. Sol Cacao: Crafting High-Quality Chocolate 🍫 Founded by three brothers, Sol Cacao produces high-quality chocolate from start to finish. They’ve gained brand recognition by partnering with local businesses, participating in trade events, and offering workshops on the history and making of chocolate. Their commitment to quality and community has driven their success. Key Takeaways for Your Marketing Strategy: Define Your Target Customer: Be precise about who your ideal customer is. Categorize Your Business: Simplify your business into a memorable category. Unveil Your Unique Benefit: Focus on key benefits that resonate with your audience. Define Your Competition: Identify and clearly differentiate from your competitors. Highlight Your Distinct Advantage: Emphasize what sets you apart from the competition. By learning from these examples, you can create a focused marketing strategy that drives growth and success for your business.
