As part of the #Zaha95 project, which aims to create safe, nurturing environments for children, caregivers, and the community, we’re excited to share a glimpse of our "Streets for Kids" intervention in Jordan. In August, the Zaha Cultural Center مركز زها الثقافي hosted a first phase "Geometry Test" intervention in Amman, bringing together representatives from the Greater Amman Municipality, Traffic Police, Public Security Directorate, Central Traffic Department, Community Police and local community members to collaboratively explore street safety measures and foster a stronger sense of community. Phase two starts next week, Monday 18 November 🚥 Farah Maher Jadallah Alia Mjally Alrawashdeh Rushda Majeed Victoria Chavez Global Designing Cities Initiative SUPERPOOL

When principles, standards and quality are challenged in the humanitarian-development sector, I take the liberty to quote my dear friend William Anderson "If we loose on quality, we loose on dignity." Standards are the lighthouse that offers guidance in the storm, they are here to support our work and offer a contextualised roadmap towards a quality destiny. As Juliet Parker says: "We need to cultivate the culture of quality." excellent session now at #HNPW2024
‘The humanitarian system is not fit for purpose’ We hear this mantra all the time, yet sometimes it sounds like an excuse for not being able to do more or do better, because the challenges are too great and the outcomes beyond our control. But if quality is not a priority, then who pays the price? If we abandon quality, we also abandon dignity. Or perhaps our world has changed such that the old system we aspired to has gone forever: From now on, aid is only about doing what we can, as quality considerations are a luxury we can no longer afford? This and more will be discussed on Tuesday 7 May at 9am in room Plénière B. Your presence will be greatly appreciated. Seating may be limited. Oh, and we may provide some snacks… quality snacks, naturally… Register here: https://bit.ly/hnpw-3 #hnpw #hnpw2024 #HumanitarianAssistance Alper Kucuk Jess Camburn Ana Pinto de Oliveira Juliet Parker Vanda Lengkong William Anderson

Motorcycles are essential to reach communities in remote areas, strengthen community engagement, and assess needs. To support local authorities' peacebuilding efforts and enhance their mobility, Peace Support Facility provided 18 motorcycles to Yallo, Abala, and Megale woredas in the Afar Region. #PSF has been instrumental in supporting local authorities in fostering recovery and resilience across the conflict-affected regions of Afar, Tigray, and Amhara. From rebuilding #schools and water schemes to supporting local peace initiatives, PSF has implemented transformative projects, including infrastructure restoration, livelihood creation, and psychosocial support, with a focus on empowering local leaders, women, and youth to take ownership of their recovery journey in the region. #PSF continues to support sustainable development activities and foster trust-building between communities and state authorities. Together, we are rebuilding lives and empowering the future in Northwest Syria! We are delighted to celebrate the successful completion of the final exhibition organized by POINT Organization as part of our projects within the Early Recovery and Livelihoods framework. This event marks a significant milestone in our mission to restore hope and resilience in the communities of Sharran and Jisr al-Shughur. ✨ Exhibition Highlights: Through innovative vocational training, road rehabilitation, and business grants, we have empowered more than 12,955 direct beneficiaries, equipping them with the skills and resources necessary to thrive. From the food industry to solar energy maintenance, the exhibition showcased a wide array of professions driving economic recovery and sustainable growth in some of the most vulnerable communities. The showcased skills included carpentry, handicrafts, electronics, food processing, and more! High-level support: We were proud to host a United Nations delegation, including senior officials from OCHA and WHO, who recognized the impact of our initiatives. OCHA’s visit aimed at advocating for vulnerable communities, meeting people, and listening to their struggles in an effort to bring in additional support that addresses the real needs of the region. Community transformation: Creating long-term employment opportunities and supporting small businesses through grants and capacity-building programs. Our efforts are a testament to what communities can achieve when given the right tools and opportunities. We are transitioning from consumption to production, fostering sustainable recovery and self-reliance. 🔊 Join the conversation! Help us amplify this impact by continuing to empower these communities. "We are failing displaced children and young people residing in slums and informal settlements. Today, 120 million people globally have been forcibly displaced, more than 40% of them are children. Many of them have found refuge in cities, ending up in slums and very poor housing conditions." Said our Regional Leader Eleanor Monbiot, OBE at the UNICEF side event entitled "Safe, Inclusive and Sustainable cities for children : Addressing structural barriers to child well-being in Informal Settlements" happening at the World Urban Forum 12 Egypt today.
