Working as both a Physician and HealthCare Recruiter, I've come to realize: Every person is unique and has given special talents. Every resume tells a story. Even when a resume looks incredible It does not mean that person is the best fit. (I have had wonderful resumes where the candidate was a mess!) One thing is for certain: It is much easier to teach skills than a new mindset. So what should one focus on? Attitude over Aptitude - someone willing to learn always outshines a know it all - kindness and humility fosters a positive environment Initiative feeds Progress - Resourceful people are problem solvers and move forward Team Player Mindset - High performers are great, but not if they take all the credit alone (as a former D1 College Athlete, it is true there is no "I" in "team") Don't Forget: The ideal candidate for your team might not: -have attended the top schools -nail every interview question the way you hope -know how to position themselves best To Build a Great Culture: Stop hiring everyone for skills alone and start hiring for attitude! Companies: hiring talented people is mission critical. Also companies: - A vague job description that’s a copy-paste from 100 other job descriptions. - Taking weeks to respond to candidates—if they respond at all. - Offering below-market compensation but expecting top-tier talent. - Conducting five rounds of interviews only to ghost candidates at the end. - Requiring "10+ years of experience" for an entry-level position. - Ignoring culture fit and then wondering why turnover is so high. As we head into 2025 let’s do better.

When they do, I immediately think “Why?” 🤔 As someone who has worked within the recruitment industry for over 25 years, I can confidently confirm that recruitment is a full-time job, which means that if you are not a recruitment consultant, but trying to hire people for your business, then that activity of recruiting will be taking you away from the role that you should (and most likely would like to) be carrying out instead.
