“Change begins with me because improvement starts with I.” While co-leading a conference in Boracay, I noticed the General Manager of this 5-star resort rake the seaweeds brought about by the heavy downpour and strong winds. First to go out, first to move then his people followed along. In 3 hours, the beachfront was beautiful again! Change really starts with us. Let us not forget - you cannot change people. Why? Because they are used to their own ways. So it’s always better to change within ourselves first because it becomes the best way to influence others to change too. When we make the effort to change, it compels others to change. Especially when they see that the change you brought to yourself impacts others in a positive way. This is true not just at work but even in our family. So let’s strive to improve even 1% daily. Stop the bad habits, embrace new routines and do all things well. A timely article with all the consolidation among hotel management companies we've seen over the last few years. In addition to size, evaluating the firm's ability to attract and retain quality property-level talent is a key consideration. The broader management company may have all the bells and whistles, but without the right General Manager and other key leaders in place, I've never seen a hotel fire on all cylinders. I had the honor of delivering the keynote at the graduation ceremony, and my message focused on the concept of Leadership Without Titles: 1. Aligning their vision with the brand vision is crucial, and they must define this vision clearly to their circle. 4. They should bring an obsessive passion to their work. 5. Discovering their purpose or the Big Why early on is essential to understanding the impact of their actions. 6. Exciting and motivating their circle to share and follow their vision is key. 7. Leaders should work for the team, not the other way around. 8. They must be the go-to person for the team, supporting them through both official and personal challenges.
