By December, Chandigarh aims to reach an impressive 88 MW of solar power generation through rooftop solar installations on around 5,545 government houses. The city already ranks second in the country, right after Delhi, surpassing states like Odisha, Assam, Goa, and Himachal Pradesh in solar capacity. Currently, Chandigarh generates 68.358 MW of solar energy, with 110 government schools alone producing 6.9 million units (MU)—surpassing their usage of 6.1 MU. Solar panels have been activated on 2,854 government homes, and installations are underway for an additional 1,600. This ambitious project includes non-residential government buildings, ensuring that Chandigarh meets its December deadline. This pioneering effort not only enhances energy independence but also sets a commendable benchmark for other cities aiming for a greener, sustainable future. 🌍 #solarenergy #chandigarh #india #renewableenergy #sustainability #greenenergy #solarpowered #solarinstallation

#Floating #solar involves installing #solar #panels on #floating #structures situated on water bodies such as lakes, reservoirs, and ponds. This not only utilizes otherwise unused water surfaces but also #enhances the #efficiency of the #solar #panels due to the #cooling effect of #water. By covering water surfaces, floating solar also #reduces losses from #evaporation, conserving precious water resources. The first floating solar was established in #Japan in 2007. However, the market for this technology has picked up since 2016. Almost all the large countries in the world now have modest #floating #solar installed capacity. In the South Asia region, #floating #solar projects are operational in #India, the #Maldives and #Bangladesh, while Pakistan and Sri Lanka are in the early stages of exploration. #INDIA boasts of the potential capacities of 280-300 GW in floating solar power. However, only a small fraction of its estimated potential has been installed in the states of Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana, Bihar and Rajasthan. The #modular #technology of floating solar can cater to mini grids and off-grid power supplies to large-scale projects that are connected to the electricity grid and can be accessed by both urban and rural populations.
