Delighted to share insights from my latest publication in the JBI EVIDENCE IMPLEMENTATION e-bulletin! "The Victorian Experiment: Implementing change in the midst of a pandemic," explores Victoria's response to protecting frontline Healthcare Workers (HCWs), predominantly #nurses, during #covid19pandemic. https://lnkd.in/gwpDjwh4 Despite existing pandemic plans, outdated strategies, inadequate investment in #publichealth, and PPE shortages left HCWs disproportionately affected, with a staggering rise in infections. HCWs endured inadequate protection, leadership issues, and mental health impacts, exacerbating a workforce crisis and straining our healthcare system. Conflicting national guidance further undermined resilience. We urgently need comprehensive disaster management and direct input from HCWs. Strengthening internal protection and addressing workplace culture are crucial for HCW #wellbeing. Let’s heed these lessons to better protect and support our invaluable HCWs. With adaptability and preparedness, we must navigate future challenges with resilience and strength. #PublicHealth #COVID19 #HealthcareHeroes #ImplementationScience #BuildBackBetter #WellBeingMatters

During the month, I will share how Georgetown University School of Health faculty are advancing knowledge, informing practice, and shaping policy within and beyond the walls of the medical establishment. In this publication, Angela Thomas, DrPH, MPH, MBA et al. illuminate how inequitable conditions in medical care are patient safety issues. Opportunities for improvement are shared. For me, the imperative for organizations to critically audit performance with an equity lens, and uncover their own historical contributions to inequality is most salient. https://lnkd.in/eEFSuHg2 Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality MEDSTAR HEALTH RESEARCH INSTITUTE

We’re happy to announce our 2025 US Children's Hospital Rankings for Patient Experience! 🎉👩🏫 These rankings are based on unsolicited patient feedback, gathered from online reviews between September 2023 and September 2024. To be eligible, hospitals must exclusively provide pediatric services and have received at least 100 reviews during this period. What sets our rankings apart is our exclusive focus on patient experience. Unlike other rankings that rely on specialist opinion or a range of clinical metrics, ours are defined by what patients actually think about their care – measured by one powerful indicator: the PEP Score. We feature the Top 10 US Children's Hospitals below: #1) Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital at Memorial - Memorial Healthcare System #2) Children's Hospital Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus - Children's Hospital Colorado #3) Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford - Stanford Children's Health | Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford #4) Cincinnati Children's Burnet Campus - Cincinnati Children's #5) UChicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital - UChicago Medicine #6) Covenant Children's Hospital - Providence #7) CHOC Children's Main Campus - Orange - CHOC Children's #8) Nicklaus Children's Hospital - Nicklaus Children's Health System #9) Oklahoma Children's Hospital at OU Health - OU Health #10) St Christopher’s Hospital for Children - Tower Health Check out the full 2025 US Children's Hospital Rankings for Patient Experience here: https://lnkd.in/eBJmw89D "Our technology is unlocking a better understanding of patient experience for US hospitals, payors, and the entire healthcare industry," said Meghan Leaver, PhD, Founder and COO of PEP Health. "Our rankings reflect how hospitals actually use our platform: to better understand the 'why' behind the experience of their patients, to benchmark themselves against competitors locally and nationally, and ultimately to deliver better care."

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗮𝘆. Below is a brief summary of each. 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀: There are many forces affecting where physicians are moving--both physicians just graduating residency and those already in practice. Updating our DocFlows app (https://docflows.unc.edu/) will enable us to see how physician migration patterns have changed between 2009-2015 and 2015-2023. 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻–𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀: As the nation faces worsening workforce shortages and a persistent maldistribution of health care workers, foreign-born and foreign-trained health professionals may comprise an increasingly important labor source. Brianna Lombardi and Evan Galloway are leading a project that will develop an interactive data viz that allows users to explore the demographic, immigration, and employment characteristics of foreign-born and foreign- trained physicians at the state and national level 𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗠𝗚𝘀: Historically, physicians who attend medical school outside the US or Canada have been required to complete a US residency in order to practice. However, an increasing number of states are allowing foreign-trained physicians to pursue alternative pathways to residency, licensure, and practice. This study will explore the types of pathways states are developing for IMGs, the forces driving states to develop new pathways, the design of these pathways and if there are plans to measure their outcomes. 𝗡𝗣 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿: Esita Patel will be leading a study that compares NP turnover rates, intention to leave, and reasons for leaving or staying in hospitals and primary care settings in 2018 compared to 2022. The study will examine what, if any, differences exist in the individual and organizational characteristics associated with turnover.
