#DYK that the National Health Eligibility Center is in the process of notifying 1.5 million veterans nationwide that their Veteran Health Identification Card is expiring? Although the VHIC is not required to receive VA health care, it is beneficial to quickly check in for your VA appointments. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/e8pFGEKh. #ArmyRetirement #RetiredSoldier
And if you use it to access a military facility that checks id’s and it’s expired they will confiscate it. Or at least they are supposed too.
Very informative - thank you for sharing
My driver's license has my veteran status and disability.the VA card is the bare minimum no chip and almost no information it's basically useless.the V A employees have modern identification cards.
What Jane D Sample doesn’t need is benefits. What she does need is a wheel barrow to carry around that enormous set of Rocky Mountain Oysters 🫡
I agree, and the Fort Worth VA Health Center/Clinic took care of my renewal quickly.
The website to renew is useless. Mine has been on hold for over a month.

1wU.S. Army Soldier For Life, the sample illustration discussing the expiration should show the location on the card to find the expiration date. It is next to the photograph. Also, it seems that the card issued in one location may not be accepted in a distant location -- at least that was the case where I helped a person who relocated to our area was told by someone in the VA clinic that his card needed to be reissued locally. It may have just expired though. Once issued, cards are valid for 10 years. Most Veterans will be able obtain a replacement VHIC (not initial VHIC) by contacting their local VA medical facility and making their request by phone, or they can call 877-222-8387, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET. Once their identity has been verified, a replacement card will be mailed to them.
