The National Coordinating Committee – Swimming for Disabled People (NCC-SDP) has introduced a small grants fund aimed at increasing the involvement of disabled individuals in swimming activities. Grants of up to £500 are available to support innovative projects that provide life-changing support, impact, and insight. These grants are ideal for projects or clubs making a significant difference to a smaller group of individuals, rather than large-scale, one-off events. The focus is on fostering deeper inclusion and access to water, from hydrotherapy sessions to competitive para-swimming opportunities. While most grants will be up to £500, exceptionally innovative proposals may be considered for larger amounts. Your help is needed now - this will take 2 minutes! ✍️ Drowning is one of the leading causes of child deaths, 125 child drowning deaths have occurred in the last four years. That's 125 too many! The Department for Education is reviewing the national curriculum. Swimming and Water Safety is currently within key stage 1 or 2. While it is very basic, at least children should be taught to swim and how to stay safe if they get into difficulty. We need it to remain on the curriculum, so we are asking you to click the link below, use the template letter, amend it if you like and send it by e-mail to curriculum-assessment.review@education.gov.uk Here is the link to download the template: https://lnkd.in/ex_qerte

Every Parent Needs to Know This About Water 👀 ⬇️ 1️⃣ Kids don’t need to learn perfect strokes to be safe in the water! 2️⃣ Learning the foundations of swimming will keep your kids safe so everyone can enjoy the pool. 3️⃣ Kids as young as 6 months old can learn to surface after being fully submerged, orient their bodies to a proper float and remain floating until someone can come pick them up. 4️⃣ Somewhere between 2.5-3yrs kids can learn all of the above AND build strong enough movements to propel themselves through the water. 5️⃣ It’s more than just swimming, it’s finding air for safety and a full understanding of what’s involved in a water environment. Tag someone in Calgary who needs swimming lessons for their infants and toddlers! #swimlesson #swimlessons #swimlessonforkids #swimlessonssavelife #poolsafety #watersafety #watersafetytips #watersafetyeducation #childdevelopment #childdevelopmentclass #childdevelopmenteducation #survivalswimming #survivalswimminglessons #kidsswimming #kidsswimminglessons #calgary #alberta #canada

Play and challenge... Children often want to create challenge and uncertainty in their play. Through risky, challenging play, children test themselves and find out their own limits. They learn how to deal with risk through play and can use these same skills later in life. Parents should encourage their children from birth to extend themselves. Teach them basic skills including: - Riding a bicycle - Swimming - Road safety Explain that it’s important to learn from mistakes, to try again and to believe in themselves. Help them understand their limits and their boundaries. Allow them to have fun in their play! How are you challenging your kids through play? Generational beliefs, fears, and myths, combined with inequitable access to water resources and basic swim instruction, has left nearly 60% of Black and Brown children are unable to swim or uncomfortable in the deep end of the pool. Without the essential life skill of swimming, these children are 8 times greater risk of drowning. AquaMissions is determined to dispel the commonplace myths, fears and stereotypes about the dangers and inaccessibility of water and swimming and equip Black and LatinX children in Cleveland with access to life-saving water safety and swimming instruction. Following is a Policy Statement on the century-long problem of inequitable access to water resources and swim instruction for minorities, and recommendations to change the trajectory of water-related accidents and deaths among Black and Brown children in Cleveland.
