Precision in blasting is crucial for safety and efficiency. When detonated, a portion of the energy is released as air pressure, or airblast, which must be monitored with a seismograph to ensure it remains within the regulated limits set by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). All blasts at US Aggregates’ sites are conducted by licensed professionals certified by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

How is an accident which had a blast radius of about 500metres allowed to happen? If this has occured in a built up area or village the outcome could have been far worse. Some serious questions need to be answered Why are high explosives being carried on the roads and not rail. Why does the transport of high explosives not require a police escort. Just upgrading the Bruce Hwy, which will take at least 5-10 yrs is not the solution.

It’s now been four years since the announcement by shooting organisations that toxic lead ammunition would be phased out. But the latest results from Shot Switch published today found 93% of shot pheasants are still killed using this toxic metal. Read more via WWT: https://lnkd.in/eVm5_VFr With hundreds of thousands of waterbirds killed or harmed each year by lead poisoning it’s clear that the voluntary phase out hasn’t worked. It's time to make good on pledges to #BanLead & support use of widely available safe alternatives.

Shotgun clauses: I've changed my mind completely on them. Business partners need some way of separating from each other. Even as a last resort nuclear option. In my naive phase, I used to think "people will behave rationally. They'll be able to talk it out and come to a reasonable settlement." Not true at all. Rational, reasonable people can become irrational when emotions and history come into the mix. Back to the shotgun. People need a way out. The alternative of a minority oppression claim --> court order liquidating the company is such a tough, risky, expensive process. And you can still lose even with a good case with good facts. My default advice on shotguns now: include it and pray you never use it.

Today's preparedness point to ponder: When it comes to the aspect of self defense, firearms tend to get the lion's share of the attention. While they are the most prevalent form of self defense, and certainly are a main factor in one's preparedness plan, the fact remains that less than lethal options are an avenue that bears further exploration. There's a saying that when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Having a variety of options at hand can turn an encounter from one where lethal force is used and then questioned, sometimes at great cost, in a court of law, to one where only the necessary force was used. Could that situation have been resolved with pepper spray or a taser rather than one's firearm? Perhaps. Perhaps not. However, it's incumbent on the well-prepped individual to train with both lethal and non-lethal forms of self protection, as well as be intimately familiar with the laws of usage of both.
