Making a mark | without leaving a footprint
Through our Perfekt Samspill vision, we ensure that sustainability is an integral part of our business, from the products we manufacture to how we work and the responsibility we take.
By taking a proactive approach and identifying common benefits for ourselves and the wider industry, we have worked actively to improve our processes, products, and product development.
We are proud to provide premium windows and doors that suit any aesthetic whilst also performing to the highest quality. It is important to note that embodied carbon is just as crucial as other performance metrics, and understanding the lifecycle and carbon emissions of any product is critical to continue redefining the construction industry.
The NorDan environmental approach is implemented throughout the value chain, from material suppliers to how the completed products are being transported to construction sites across Europe. Long-standing relations with leading suppliers ensures products and solutions that take the environmental factor into account. Our own, strict production guidelines guarantee a conscious attitude towards the environment.

The distinctive power of democracy: Following extensive preparations for the renovation of one of the pilot sites in our RINNO PROJECT, which involved the introduction of new and innovative technologies, the project was presented to the tenants for a vote. The outcome? A resounding NO.
This highlights the challenges of implementing renovation projects in social housing in Denmark, where tenant consent is crucial. However, a strategic shift from renovating the bathrooms to upgrading the kitchens and installing smart water heaters and storage tanks swayed the tenants' opinion, resulting in a favorable YES vote! 🔆

In an ever-changing world, designing purely functional spaces might lead us to buildings that are missing their full potential, ultimately losing their value over time. As necessary infrastructures in society, it's possible to give them a greater, more meaningful purpose.
By fostering a culture of awareness and responsibility, the Wastewater Treatment Plant (ETAR) in Bragança embodies this vision: transforming an existing infrastructure by merging its intrinsic utility with substantial recreational and educational value.
Beyond the Build: Unlocking Home Value with Sustainable Technologies and Certification
In today’s competitive housing environment, building professionals need every tool they can access to make their projects stand out. Fortunately, advanced technologies (like heat pumps) and home certifications are cost-effective solutions that can enhance the sustainability of projects, decrease ongoing operating costs, and increase the long-term value of homeownership.
In this free webinar, industry powerhouses Alan Machuga, CTO of Rheem, and Cynthia Adams, CEO of Pearl Certification, explore the nexus between high performance systems and home certification for optimized value. As a real-life case study, Machuga and Adams will explore lessons learned from Machuga’s own home, which is a living laboratory for advanced energy-efficient technologies and is Pearl Certified.

Clean heat | Green electricity | System integration
Passing by the Brussels #Berlaymont building yesterday, I could not help but applaud the design of the main advertising banner facing the Schuman Roundabout. Fitting #PV panels on the banner to the overall design of the facade. Just brilliant. And probably a delight for Walburga Hemetsberger and Dries Acke (and team) every day.
But now a new Commission is coming and with it a new Commissioner for energy Dan Jørgensen. In his mission letter, Ursula von der Leyen tasks him with increasing the share of renewable energy, building the necessary infrastructure and storage and ensuring affordable energy prices.
Coming back to the Berlaymont: I suggest the attached illustration of a heat grid connecting the different levels and providing heating and cooling via heat pumps and the use of waste energy.
If we imagine the Berlaymont as a multi-family building, each level can be considered a single apartment that requires heating, cooling, and hot water.
These apartments could be connected via a two-pipe thermal grid operating at ambient temperature.
As dwellings need heating, cooling and hot water at different points in time and as cooling generates waste heat, such an ambient grid will normalise energy demand and increase the system efficiency.
Efficiency can be further improved by sourcing waste heat from surrounding buildings and infrastructure, e.g. the subway, the sewage system.
Lets ReConnect heating, cooling and electricity in the EU.
Towards a circular energy economy based on renewables and waste heat. The unit of energy that we do not have to buy but can repurpose is the most affordable one.
What do you think, Dana Spinant, Sophia Eriksson Waterschoot, do we have a chance for this to be displayed on the Berlaymont?
Or can you help? Niels Ladefoged, Ditte J., Mechthild Wörsdörfer: who is responsible for this display?

Just a few hours left before voting closes! We kindly ask for your vote for our project, Pirita, as the Decarbonisation Project of the Year. We’re extremely proud to be one of the top three finalists, but winning is our ultimate goal!
Pirita is a residential development certified as carbon neutral throughout its entire lifecycle. How? Firstly, by using an industrialised timber structure that encapsulates 401tCO2, alongside other bio-sourced materials and solutions. Secondly, by being 100% electric, Passive House certified, and equipped with solar panels for energy production, ensuring that the building will generate more energy than it consumes.
Its design and construction methodology represent a significant innovation in the real estate industry, setting the standard for future developments.
Still not convinced? If we win, we’ll organise a party and invite you to visit the building!

The 13th edilon)(sedra technology forum on the topic of “Climate-neutral construction” took place on November, 7th in Nuremberg. As every year, it brought together rail construction experts from the DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) region to discuss innovative and sustainable solutions for rail transport. As we did 10 years ago, we were once again honored to co-organize the e)(s technology forum.
The event began with a welcome speech by Dr.-Ing. Gerd Grütze (Managing Director edilon)(sedra) and Jens Kleeberg (CSO RAILONE), in which both once again emphasized the necessity of the interplay between ecology and economy. The first speaker, Oliver Seufert (Siemens Mobility Customer Services), presented sustainable ideas in his lecture “Sustainable Lifecycle Services”. A visionary contribution by the utopian Jan Kamensky outlined a people-friendly cityscape of the future – of course, also with green public transport. A look outside the box that encouraged guests to develop new ideas for their work areas.
Insights into the different current implementations of “climate-neutral construction” within the DACH region were provided during the panel discussion, led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jia Liu (TU Darmstadt) between Eva Keuschnig (Wiener Linien), Urs Feuz (Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich) and Andreas Neukrich (STESAD).) Further contributions from Ryan Stolpmann (edilon)(sedra) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andrea Kustermannn (Munich University of Applied Sciences) showed, for example, “Sustainable infrastructure rehabilitation systems for slab tracks” and “Innovative techniques for reducing CO2 in concrete”.
The event concluded with a group tour of the city in a historic 1954-vintage tram – with gingerbread, mulled wine and pretzels. The group dinner at the end of the day also provided the ideal opportunity for networking and exchanging knowledge.
