The Importance of Piazza in Italian Culture Yesterday, I had the pleasure of discussing the significance of piazza in Italy with my Italian for Fun students. As we explored the role of piazza in Italian culture, I was struck by the importance of these public spaces in fostering social connections, cultural exchange, and economic activity. From Piazza Navona in Rome, which has evolved from a ancient Roman stadium to a vibrant public square, to Piazza del Campo in Siena, which hosts the iconic Palio di Siena, piazza are the heart and soul of Italian cities. In modern urban planning, the concept of piazza is often overlooked, with streets and buildings taking precedence. However, in Italy and Europe, piazza remain a vital part of the urban landscape, serving as hubs for community activity, cultural events, and economic exchange. Piazza are where people come together to socialize, conduct business, and celebrate special occasions. Have you ever had the chance to visit a picturesque Italian piazza? Let me know in the comments 😀 #Piazza #ItalianCulture #UrbanPlanning #Italianlanguage #CommunityBuilding #PublicSpace #Italiancoach #travelinginitaly

The reconnaissance of valuable intangible cultural practices recognized by UNESCO is unique, particularly highlighting the cultural potential of the night 🌃 Opportunities for future exploration could include addressing light pollution and examining non-human factors that shape the urban night—like their smell, sound, motion, and interactions between species and physical environment. Not to mention the reception of the arts while the others go to bed. Additionally, future inquiries could consider participation in nighttime cultural activities concerning age, gender, economic status and audience development policies. It's exciting to anticipate such intriguing initiatives as 24HourNation, Cities After Dark by URBACT.

Congrats to Berlin that saw its techno culture added by UNESCO to the intangible cultural heritage list. The designation is not only meant to protect this urban cultural tradition but also to recognize the need for supporting a sector which accounts for a considerable part of the city attractiveness. In April Berlin will host the first study visit of the URBACT network Cities After Dark, that will deep dive into the integrated model of governance of night-time economy implemented by Berlin with the Clubcommission Berlin e.V.. The study visit will go through some of the most interesting clubs and organizations which are driving the debate on night-time economy and night culture in the German capital. The network meeting in Berlin will also be an interesting opportunity for discussing the importance of UNESCO's designation, which globally recognizes for the first time night cultures as a treasure to preserve and valorize 24HourNation

ICCROM Director-General’s opening remarks at the international forum Vilnius and Other World Heritage Cities: Living Links emphasized the growing pressures on World Heritage cities and their increasing vulnerability. This forum serves as a vital platform for historic cities to come together, share experiences, and explore innovative approaches to urban heritage management. “This initiative takes us further in understanding the on-the-ground realities, particularly in reducing urban risks and enhancing the resilience of our historic cities and leads us to the preparation of more comprehensive guidelines and tools for effectively tackling concrete issues in a holistic and systems-thinking approach, leading to lasting policy-level changes. Together, let’s protect the present of our shared past for the future.” https://lnkd.in/dQkBBMQt https://lnkd.in/dZVDqHyG
