📢 A new publication in #CITIES - the first one in frames of the #Monitor2024 project at #NordUniversity: https://lnkd.in/dQ2F62n8 "Do we hear the #voices of #local citizens when we arrange #cultural #megaprojects for them? A case of the #EuropeanCapitalsOfCulture” – open access. Written together with Alena Nelaeva. In this viewpoint paper, we investigate the case of the European Capitals of Culture (#ECoC) and analyze their own #evaluation reports to understand to what extent and how #citizenparticipation is described in evaluation reports of #culture-led regeneration projects. We demonstrate that smaller cities report engaging their citizens to a greater extent. This highlights the smaller cities’ more significant #need for #urban #regeneration and #retaining citizens. Smaller cities mobilize large cultural initiatives as an arena for citizen engagement - meaning their intent to arrange culture-led regeneration projects not for the citizens but with the citizens. Although we do not find evidence of citizen participation in larger #ECoC cities, their participation is still essential for local value creation. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ddNcCk9f
