Sharron Moffatt (MHFA®/ACSM) critiques the superficial promotion of breast cancer awareness, often referred to as "pinkwashing," where companies show support through pink-themed products and gestures without taking meaningful action. It highlights the need for organisations to move beyond symbolism by offering comprehensive cancer awareness training, encouraging early detection, supporting transparent charities, and raising awareness through education rather than merchandise. Good evening Family, Friends, and Industry Colleagues, Happy Easter! Hope all is well. Spring is here, days are getting longer and warm weather is starting to arrive. As a reminder, I am currently training to ride in my 19th consecutive Pan-Mass Challenge (“PMC”) August 3-4, 2024. I am again riding the original two-day, 192-mile route from Sturbridge, MA to Provincetown, MA. The PMC is the world’s largest cycling fund-raising event and raises money for research/treatment/services for Dana Farber Cancer Institute and its “Jimmy Fund” in Boston, MA. Since 1980, the PMC has raised $972 Million for Dana Farber, including a record $72 Million in 2023! PMC’s goal for 2024 is $70+ Million, to reach $1 Billion in lifetime fundraising! My own goal for 2024 is $15,000+. To reach my goal, I need your help. As many of you know, cancer took my mother from me when I was 17 and a senior in high school. It continues to take many family members/friends. Because of this, we still need to fight to improve cancer survival rates. In 2024, I am riding again for Team BrentWheels, raising dedicated funds for neuroblastoma pediatric cancer research. This year, I will also again be riding for all cancer victims of all types of cancer who have passed, and for all cancer survivors and families who have fought and are continuing to fight. From a training perspective, I continue indoor strength and resistance work, core and stretching, and work on the Spin bike. I got in my first 2024 outdoor training ride of 24 miles recently. It was cold and slow, but close to another 1,000 road miles will follow pre-PMC, with warmer weather coming. From a fundraising perspective, with your help, I've raised $5,826 to date toward my $15K+ personal fundraising goal. Thank you to those who have donated to date. To fight this uphill battle against cancer, I need to ask for your financial help. To donate on-line, please click https://lnkd.in/eCa6iiJ . If you have company match, please have the gift matched. Ideally, I would like to receive as many donations as possible by Friday April 26, 2024. I am humbled by your caring, thoughtfulness, and willingness to make a difference. Together, we can provide hope and take further steps closer to finding a cure. Thank you very, very much. Warm wishes, Bob #pmc2024 #teambrent

🚐 🎗 In the past I have participated in the The Shitbox Rally. This is a great cause that looks at raising awareness and much needed funds for Cancer Council, with the Participants over the past 14 years raising in excess of $42 Million Dollars The experience itself was amazing and being able to share that with not only my Brother but others impacted by this terrible disease was very rewarding. The hard work and commitment of every participant is astonishing even though the fundraising can be quite exhausting. After a few of these Charity Drives I had thought I was done. However, Box Rallies recently added a new Charity Drive called the Lunchbox Rally. Much like the beloved Shitbox rally teams raise funds and awareness for Cancer Council, before driving through the rough outback of Australia in a Cheap Classic Car affectionately known as a "Shitbox". Although once again each team is made up of 2 participants, the Major difference this time though is that one of the participants is a child. Our eldest daughter Aurelia (9), who has both seen and helped with fundraising for previous Rallies saw that this was released and wanted to be a part of the Rally family 🙋♀️. In her true style there was a small sales pitch, regarding the Positives, but seemed to forget about the challengers that comes with journey. None the less it was enough persuasion for us to register. When Aurelia was told we had been accepted she even let out a little squeal of excitement, with video evidence now captured for future embarrassment. We have turned to the next steps of the Journey. Trying to find a cheap functioning car can be difficult. Thanks to Grant for holding onto the Indian Pacific which was used in our last Rally. The car appears to still be in good shape and will once again venture into the outback of Australia hoping to once again reach the finish line. We have already started our fundraising, with Aurelia being heavily involved in this process. We welcome and greatly appreciate anyone that wishes to sponsor the team "A MINI RAE-CER" to reach out and we can discuss sponsorship options available. Anyone wishing to donate can also do so through our WeGive page, via the link below. Every dollar raised fuels cancer research, patient support, and prevention programs. But this isn't just about miles; it's about making a difference. Seeing both Family and friends battle this illness, we're rallying for them, and those facing similar battles. #LunchboxRally #CancerCouncil #MakingADifference

Have a read of the post below and if you can, please support Tony Collier BEM and his effort to raise some cash for Tackle Prostate Cancer
On 1st May I had a knee replacement having been unable to do weight bearing exercise since August 2023. I started back doing gentle walk/run two months ago with the aim of running a 5km parkrun on 30th November and at the same time raise some £5,000 for Tackle Prostate Cancer to fund the settin up of two new support groups. It’s been way tougher than I ever imagined. 12 months of no weight bearing exercise has massively taken its toll and my cardio vascular fitness is non existent! Throw in the disruption of a house move that hasn’t helped. However, very slowly building back up. It really is very slow but I’ll get there. Read all about the challenge here https://lnkd.in/eHAgakmR And this is the JustGiving link https://lnkd.in/egHdXTQz all donations gratefully received and make the lives of men living with prostate cancer and their families better!

I know the month is almost over, but I didn't want to close it out without mentioning that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as it's a topic very close to my heart. That's because I'm a survivor. In 2014, I was diagnosed with breast cancer found through a routine mammogram. I was one of the lucky cases in which it was caught very early, making it easier to treat. I went through treatment, including surgery, and eventually went back to my life. This year, I celebrate 10 years being cancer-free. Of course having cancer changed me. In 2016, I was laid off from my corporate job, and I knew I wanted to do something different. So I started helping friends and neighbors with ordinary everyday tasks - running errands, sitting with elderly neighbors for companionship, and even delivering forgotten lunch boxes to school. Soon I started getting calls for more help and I quickly realized I could make a business out of doing good. In 2017, I incorporated Everyday Hands. Cancer definitely impacted my journey to owning and running a small business. It sounds cliche, but you truly never know what tomorrow brings, and having cancer brought that home to me clearly. It helped me realize I really wanted to be doing something where I was helping people and could see the impact of my work more immediately. Everyday Hands has helped me achieve those goals. Running a small business has many ups and downs, so while it hasn't always been easy, I don't regret the decision. I know I'm not unique in being a survivor. One in eight American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. In 2024, an estimated 310,720 women and 2,800 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.* That's why the sad reality is that chances are great that you know at least one person affected by breast cancer, if not more. I'm a poster child for early detection through screening, so get your annual mammograms and encourage all the females in your life to do so too. It can truly be the difference between surviving this terrible disease or not. There are lots of great organizations out there supporting breast cancer treatment, research, survivors, and their families. One I really love is the Breast Cancer Confidence Project (https://lnkd.in/djpr76Xe), a non-profit organization that aims to restore the confidence of survivors through transformative portrait experiences. Check them out online and support them if you feel compelled. You can see my contribution to this project under the "Lives Touched" tab. *Source: National Breast Cancer Foundation: https://lnkd.in/euQm-E-Y
