Food security remains a huge issue in New York City, especially as food costs have skyrocketed over the last several years. Unfortunately, many Brooklynites do not always know where their next meal will come from. At BCS, we’re working to feed Brooklyn with our New York Food for New York Families program. We also explore this issue further in our new blog post, which goes live later this week! Food banks in the City of Ottawa / Ville d’Ottawa are struggling to serve vulnerable populations amid increased demand. As a volunteer with St. Joe's Supper Table operating out of St. Joseph's Parish - Ottawa, I'm witnessing this firsthand. 📈 St. Joe's Supper Table is the only food bank serving Sandy Hill residents with a well-earned reputation for being Ottawa's smallest food bank with a big impact and an even bigger heart. We're seeing an unprecedented increase in people accessing our services. In 2023, 60% of registrations were from new households. A total of 1,111 individuals registered at the food bank in 2023, up from 728 registrations in 2022: a 53% increase. The number of visits to the food bank have been steadily increasing from 2023 to 2024. In May 2023, 267 individuals accessed the food bank. In May 2024, there were 529 individuals, including newcomers, university students and folks with full-time jobs. There's an urgent need for specific food items like coffee, sugar and canned meat, as well as baby diapers and menstrual products. 🥫 The Supper Table's manager, Kathleen Strader, spoke with 580 CFRA's Patricia Boal this morning about the challenges the food bank is currently facing and our upcoming Autumn Fundraiser. Listen below. 🍂 To make a donation to the food bank, visit: https://lnkd.in/gqxGvHFH The right to food is a human right. #FoodInsecurity #FoodBank #Volunteer #CityOfOttawa https://lnkd.in/g6WyYWVD

An article by The New York Times outlined a strategic plan by The White House to keep edible food out of landfills. Roughly 30% of the country's food supply isn't eaten, but thrown away or wasted. Officials are trying to change the behavior of both businesses and individuals to reduce waste and expand food donations. As the owner of an event venue, I’ve witnessed the joy that good food brings to gatherings. However, it’s essential to remember that behind every plate is a story and resources that should never go to waste. Here’s what one can do: 1. Plan menus based on accurate guest counts. 2. Serve smaller portion sizes. 3. Donate excess food to local charities. 4. Use creative food displays. 5. Educate staff on portion control. 6. Offer take-home options for guests. 7. Incorporate seasonal ingredients. 8. Use buffet-style service. 9. Encourage guests to share plates. 10. Track food waste for future improvements. #WorldFoodDay #HappyWorldFoodDay #EventManagement #Founder #FounderInsights

As Promised: ⬇ ⬇ A follow up to my last post 🍋 When you think of fundraising it's a lot of work but when it's for a very special cause that you have passion for, it becomes priority to get it done, even if it's embarrassing. My son, begged me to raise money for Chai Lifeline. Usually, how do you fundraise? Door to Door 🚪, however we brain stormed with my son and came up with a a NEW strategy" Lemonade fresh smoothies 🍋 🍋 🥤 (Water, sugar, ice, fresh squeezed lemon) Very simple but delicious. This was not a thought out plan: 3:00PM: Bought ingredients 3:15PM: Started the process, was a lot of lemons 3:45PM: sent out messages to all groups and posted flyer with all info 4:15-5:15PM we sold more than 25x cups of 🍋 There were times the boys were ready to give up: "None coming" "This is stupid" "What's the point" I replied " At times there will be business and customers and at other times there will be slow business, keep at it" Towards the end, there was a man with 3 daughters that came with $6 and said "keep the change" he also requested the website so he can donate. People want to do good, they just need direction You AGREE? #givingback #mondaythoughts --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If your looking to grow engagement and your business, DM me. (Only serious people that are willing to get out of their cozy blankets in the wintery nights 🌨You know who you are 😜 )
