Reflecting on session one of our construction focused sustainability training, the level of discussion the cohort engaged in resulted in some really interesting conversations, particularly involving Guernsey’s prospective #EnergyPerformanceCertificate (EPC) requirements. It's great to have so much expertise in one room, especially when our cohorts get stuck in and want to share their knowledge. It’s fascinating to hear the different considerations and questions that are generated on topics like EPCs from individuals in the same sector but who operate in different roles. And it means that we get to learn a lot too! We’re looking forward to session two this week. With EPCs on the horizon in Guernsey, it seems a good time to mention that this is a service that UN1TY Trusted Advisory offers. With qualified Domestic and Commercial assessors on our team, we can produce thorough and reliable EPC assessments to help you understand the energy efficiency of your property. Please do get in touch for more information. Rollo de Sausmarez Mike Ozanne Colin Woodcock Caitlin Duquemin

We know how difficult it is for construction companies to comply with strict environmental regulations. Leveraging our experience in providing ESG services, we created a custom solution that addresses key bottlenecks in ESG compliance. 1. Monitor established KPIs via a dashboard in real time. The dashboard shows the amount of energy used, greenhouse gas emissions, and compliance to social responsibility indices. 2. Manage data warehouses in a centralized manner 3. Easily manage tasks via task management system adjusted for Sustainable and Operational Managers. 4. Analyze performance with sophisticated reporting tools. Watch the video to figure out how you can simplify compliance with environmental regulations that are becoming stricter every year. https://lnkd.in/dKCtF778

As director of operational services at Eiffage Construction, Fabien Darchis is at the coal face of working out how one of Europe’s largest contractors can implement strict new French and #European #sustainability regulations into its every-day work. He tells Catrin Jones about the challenges - and opportunities - they bring. As one of the key people responsible for working out how Eiffage’s thousands of domestic employees and subcontractors go about complying with France’s increasingly ambitious sustainability laws, Darchis has a lot to keep on top of. Over the last few years, the French government has charged ahead of its European neighbours, passing a raft of new regulations which set aggressive targets for reducing carbon #emissions of buildings and require #construction companies to use more #energy efficient materials and equipment. The new laws go a long way towards fulfilling France’s obligations under the European Union’s Energy Performance in Buildings Directive - something most other European governments are still only thinking about. For Eiffage, ranked number five on the CE100 list of the top European contractors, which is involved in some of the continent’s major #engineering and construction projects, including the UK’s new high-speed rail project, Darchis says it’s important to stay ahead of the curve.

In today’s business world, success is no longer limited to achieving financial goals alone; it also includes considering environmental impacts. Environmental planning plays a crucial role in the success of projects by ensuring their sustainability and minimizing negative effects on the environment. Here’s how environmental planning can contribute to project success: Achieving Sustainability: Environmental planning helps integrate sustainability practices into project strategies. By using resources efficiently and reducing waste, projects can achieve long-term sustainability and minimize their environmental footprint. Improving Operational Efficiency: By optimizing resource use and implementing eco-friendly technologies, environmental planning can enhance operational efficiency. This not only reduces costs but also improves overall project performance. Compliance with Regulations: Adhering to environmental laws and regulations is essential to avoid fines and legal issues. Environmental planning ensures that the project meets all environmental requirements, reducing legal risks and enhancing project reputation. Enhancing Reputation: Projects that show environmental concern build a strong reputation as socially responsible entities. This can attract customers and partners who value sustainability and strengthen their loyalty to the project. Managing Environmental Risks: Environmental planning helps identify and assess potential environmental risks and find solutions to address them. This reduces the likelihood of environmental issues affecting project progress and outcomes. Providing Financial Opportunities: By implementing environmental initiatives, projects can benefit from financial incentives such as grants and subsidies, as well as savings on energy and water costs. Attracting Investments: Investors prefer to support projects that adhere to good environmental practices. Environmental planning enhances the project's appeal to investors looking for sustainable and environmentally conscious ventures. Building Design and Construction magazine’s report on whether the UK Government can meet the 2050 net zero target uses the Jacobs approach to embedding sustainability into every project as a case study. Will Masters, Sales Leadership for Sustainability at Jacobs, is quoted following our success at the recent APM Awards 2023 having won the Sustainability Award. The report includes a survey by the Association for Project Management which canvassed views within the sector about the UK’s zero-carbon aspirations, finding that 90% of project managers working in the construction sector are confident the UK government will meet its 2050 net zero target, but 70% highlighted concerns about whether the profession’s pipeline of talent was sufficient to sustain delivery of key projects. This concern is recognised in the UK Trade Skills Index 2023 which reports that the construction and trades industry will need nearly 1 million new recruits over the next decade. #OurJacobs #PlanBeyond #Sustainability #NetZero
