Despite recent challenges, the video games and immersive tech industries are poised for growth. In 2017, consumers spent just 40 minutes per week on mobile games, which grew to nearly 100 minutes per week by 2022. This figure could reach 160 minutes per week by 2027. By 2030, an estimated 40 per cent of the global population may be active video game players. The UK gaming sector, in particular, has seen significant growth in the number of active companies over the past five years. For gaming companies, securing the right studio or office space is a strategic asset that, when fully optimised, can support a wide range of organisational goals. Our latest offering is designed to equip gaming industry professionals with the key information and evaluation criteria to make optimal real estate decisions. We’d love to discuss your real estate needs further. #CommercialRealEstate #GamingIndustry #UKBudget2024 #EconomicGrowth #VideoGamesIndustry #KnightFrank Ukie Jamie Phillips Sam Collins Bhavina B. https://lnkd.in/eqtsCDns.

Really like this piece around lower cost areas helping to spur some regrowth of jobs in the gaming industry, but these roles don't necessarily have to be in Eastern Europe or South America. Like Ben Kvalo points out, there are some advantages to just moving development out of LA/SF and into lower cost areas even in the US. I did some quick math on cost savings and break-even and found this to be interesting. This math isn't perfect, but still tells a story. Average game developer cost in LA is around $96K (salary.com). If I have a studio that's 100 people large and I move them or start a new studio in Minneapolis (where I'm currently based), you could save $3.5M in salary costs alone. I get that the talent level might not be the same, but that's lowering the break-even of a AAA game by 100K units (if the game is priced at $69.99 and I make 50% in margin). Those economics could be pretty interesting as the industry recovers from this year of layoffs. #videogames #gaminglayoffs
Founder & CEO Midwest Games | Former Netflix, 2K, Blizzard | President of the Wisconsin Games Alliance | Board Member | Executive Chair of MDEV
Exactly! Finally. When we started Midwest Games we saw an opportunity to push the games industry to a more sustainable place. Never did we imagine the state of the industry a year later, but it shows the point that so many are now recognizing. We have to be more sustainable and think about a different approach to how we do business. Check out Madison, WI for a live example of how different can be done. Companies like Raven Software (Activision), Respawn Entertainment (Electronic Arts (EA)), Lost Boys Interactive (Embracer Group), PUBG Corporation, ZeniMax Online Studios (Bethesda Game Studios), Epic Games, Microsoft, PerBlue, and others are already there…in a 15 mile radius in a more sustainable environment. Please support these places and put your money where your mouth is by moving to these places to invest in new businesses…or move your businesses to these vastly less expensive places. We can and will make huge change if we make the move…maybe that’s our slogan. In 2024, let’s #makethemove for a better industry by making the industry elsewhere!

Reliving the PAX West 2024 Experience at the Seattle Convention Center with XSeed Games! PAX West is a vibrant celebration of gaming culture, and Catalyst was thrilled to design a custom booth for XSeed, Marvelous and Rune Factory’s assorted game titles. Our mission was to inspire and engage gaming enthusiasts and future industry leaders. We showcased immersive gaming kiosks for several new games, creating an experience that WOWed attendees. One standout feature was our LED activation, inviting guests to dance alongside the game’s MCs (main characters). This interactive element created unforgettable moments and drew in crowds, making the booth a highlight of the convention! HIGHLIGHTS: 01. Interactive Gaming Zones: Each themed kiosk featured the latest titles, designed to transport players into unique worlds. Attendees had the chance to preview exciting new games, enhancing their overall experience. 02. 🎮 From the Bedroom to the Main Hall: How Our Gaming Roots Power Our Success in the Industry 🌟 There was a time when we were just kids, huddled in our rooms, controllers in hand, fully immersed in the world of gaming. Those late-night sessions, the thrill of leveling up, the camaraderie of playing with friends, and the intense strategy discussions—all of it shaped who we are today. Little did we know back then, in those dimly lit rooms, that we were laying the foundation for something much bigger. Fast forward to today, and we’ve taken that passion for gaming from our bedrooms to the main halls of the gaming industry. The skills we honed in our youth—teamplay, strategy, creativity, and, most importantly, having fun—are now at the core of how we help our clients grow and thrive in this dynamic space. Gaming taught us the importance of teamwork, how to collaborate with others to achieve a common goal, and how to adapt to ever-changing environments. These are the same principles we bring to our client partnerships, working closely with them to navigate challenges and strategize for success. Just like in a game, we know that every move counts, and we’re always thinking several steps ahead. Strategy in gaming isn’t just about winning; it’s about understanding the landscape, knowing your strengths, and executing a plan with precision. We apply this strategic thinking to everything we do, ensuring that our clients are not just playing the game but dominating it. And let’s not forget the fun. Gaming taught us that when you’re passionate about what you do, it shows in your work. We bring that same enthusiasm and energy to every project, creating an environment where innovation and creativity can thrive. Here’s to the journey from our gaming rooms to the forefront of the industry, and to using everything we’ve learned along the way to help our clients level up and achieve greatness. 🚀 #GamingIndustry #FromPlayersToPros #TeamworkAndStrategy #GamingRoots #LevelUp #CreativeThinking #StrategicSuccess #ClientGrowth #PassionAndFun #MainHallOfGaming

𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗯'𝘀 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜'𝗺 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻! Back in 2018, Secretlab didn't really stand out to me; it was just another gaming chair brand. However, that all changed when I met Matthew Bailey, also known as Cyborgmatt, the Director of Operations at Team Secret. When I was the Director of Events at Mars Media, organizing MDL tournaments, I reached out to teams for feedback. Matt's immediate suggestion was clear: "Dude, you really need to get Secretlab chairs for your next events, preferably a mix of Titan and Omega" I remember joking, "So nice of you to push your partner's chairs at our event." Matt just smirked and told me to give it a shot. When I asked what made those chairs so special, he just shrugged and said, "Everything" Some weeks or months later, I found myself at another event, this time with Secretlab chairs. I sat in one, tested it out, and within minutes, I was sold. It only took me a few minutes to realize how fantastic those chairs were, not only for my own comfort but also for the players. That's when it hit me: I wanted Secretlab as a partner for all our future MDL events. And just like that, the Singapore-based company became our partner for both the MDL Disneyland Paris Major and the MDL Chengdu Major, both of which took place in 2019. At the MDL Disneyland®️ Paris Major, I didn't receive a single piece of negative feedback about the chairs. Following the MDL Chengdu Major, several Chinese teams approached me, expressing their desire for the chairs due to their exceptional quality, despite Secretlab not being available in China at the time. So yeah, if you ever wondered if Secretlab is worth the purchase. I hope this post answers your question. This post was written in the comfort of my Secretlab TITAN Evo. Among the myriad reasons I adore this chair, the standout feature that sets it apart is the unique ability to customize the 4-Way L-Adapt™️ Lumbar Support. At first glance, the impact may not be immediately apparent, but after a few hours of sitting, the difference becomes clear. I also opted for the SoftWeave™️ Plus Fabric, which has proven to be my preferred choice over the leather alternative, a material I had previously favored in my previous two chairs.

I’ve been mulling over this piece from Bryant Francis in Game Developer discussing the high costs of game building in the U.S. His main points are boiled down as follows: 💵 High Operating Costs in the U.S.: American game studios face the combined challenges of high operating costs in regions with a high cost of living. (i.e., game devs need to eat too.) 🌎 Shifting Game Development to Lower-Cost Regions: Off-shoring is becoming more common in the industry, and more studios are adopting it for gaming too. (i.e., another trend that will impact U.S. studios.) I'd even put co-dev shops as a "hybrid" version of this practice. 📈 Need for Sustainable Funding Models: The high cost of development and high expectations for “immediate success” mean that letting things “cook” isn’t always an option, especially in light of the first two points. What do you folks think about the resilience of the U.S. games industry? I’m biased, but I see studios based in the U.S. doing more with less, leveraging game-building tools that help them cut costs (of course, I can shill Hathora, but there are many other great providers out there too). How do you see this hitting the industry? Read Bryant’s full piece linked below. #gamedev #industryinsights
