What a great 3 days at the Health Innovation Community conference, hosted by Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH)! Some take-aways: 💥 A CSIRO project showed how small-number, detailed qualitative research can sit comfortably alongside high-number quantitative research. This means small outfits (like Xstitch Health!) can meaningfully contribute to the research world. 💥 We love the concept of “facts per decision”, explained by John Doulis: Data is exponentially increasing the number of “facts” available (eg genetic information) per clinical decision. As the number of facts moves beyond human cognitive capacity, an acceptable standard of care must address data synthesis. 💥 Aasha Cowey’s slide on “fund teams not projects” resonates with the Xstitch aim of creating a new environment for clinicians to work more effectively. The networking was fantastic and we have some new leads on using technology in the social health sector. More to come soon! #hic2024 #HealthInnovation #DigitalHealth #Research #XstitchHealth

Official version of my blog on productivity. I’ll be talking about this at Confed. If you are there, say hello. There is so much innovation coming out of the Life Sciences industry but we need to be careful about fuelling inequity as we drive greater productivity, for example by digitising services.
#IQVIA's Paul Henderson shares insights on the importance of social value and immediate innovations to improve staff and #patientexperience. Check out our latest blog to learn more: https://bit.ly/3Vlvy52

Female health is under-researched, under-invested, and just not talked about enough. If you agree and want to hear more, my colleague Fran Salisbury took part in a great panel discussion on femtech challenges which you can watch below
Our warmest thanks to Lisa Mueller, Fran Salisbury and Kathrin F. (Femtech Insider) for the enlightening conversation about women's health issues and the amazing work that is being done by Femtechs. The challenges are considerable, but the potential of this industry cannot be overlooked. If you couldn't watch it live, check out the recording on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/dURD6kEx.

I am very curious about what shapes ICT4D research and application. I am concerned that large funding agencies direct the research agenda and the implementation approach of projects... where is the business model for the sustainability of the project after donor funding has dried up? Real problems exist that does not fit in the SDG boxes, or is too complex to be changed via a focus on, for example, social justice. It is a good contributing factor and one that is deeply embedded in societies, but needs to be complemented with a focus on other issues of livelihood that results in a portfolio strategy that has both short and long term benefits. Social justice may require a ten year strategy and the impact may be almost invisible in the first five years???? Best wishes and keep up the good work! Mario. Tomorrow is the day at #ICIS2024! Our SIGGlobDev workshop, “The Shape of #ICT4D to come”, is up! I am so glad to co-chair a workshop that touches, and will deepen, important themes into which contemporary ICT4D research is evolving. These include data justice, digital social welfare, and the focus on surveillance in the Majority World that our new book with Azadeh Akbari connects explicitly to ICT4D. Here is the workshop programme: 👉👉 https://lnkd.in/dT8Bn4vr Featuring a lineup of splendid speakers including Carolyn Kavita Tauro, Dr. Priyanka Pandey, Yingqin Zheng, Billy Mashele, Ronell van der Merwe, Lungile Binza, Adheesh Budree, Devinder Thapa, Antonio Díaz Andrade, Dinushika G., Ji-soo Sim, Bruno H. Sanches, Parminder Pal Singh, Abhipsa Pal, Mumin Abubakre, Pamod Amarakoon, Ranjan Vaidya, Ravinder Kumar Verma, PhD, Stan Karanasios and a wonderful team of coauthors. So happy to have worked with my amazing co-chair Jolanta Kowal, and our splendid SIGGlobDev president Antonio Diaz Andrade to foster this great conversation! #digital #research #development #SIGGlobDev

Cannot solve todays problems with yesterdays thinking 🤔 We can however approach problemss from new angles 📐 and gain better perspectives. This is especially pertinent when using design and systems thinking to understand how an ecosystem interconnects on every level, be it mechanical, societal, or biological - if we really want impact health we will need to take bold steps and #HealthEnterprise #Innovation are requirements for the 22nd century healthcare industry and workforce. Watch this space! Interesting things afoot 🦶

TEC Conf 2024: Hits & Headscratchers I have had an opportunity to reflect on the #ITEC2024 conference. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet new and old friends in the sector, and my mind is buzzing! Here are some key takeaways for me: ❓ Personalization Paradox: While much was discussed on the main stage about personalising care technology to fit seamlessly into the lives of people of all ages, the technology showcased on the exhibition floor was primarily focused on older persons and falls. This discrepancy, especially with Learning Disabilities identified by councils as the most significant growth area in the next 12 months, is a gap we urgently need to bridge. 👩💼 Workforce Woes: Without a happy, engaged workforce who believes in care technology and advocates for its use with people who can benefit from it, it's just shiny gadgets. It's one of the biggest challenges for councils to realise their ambitions for care technology in the next 12 months. We need to move beyond awareness campaigns to empower them and play to their strengths (hearts, minds, AND hands!). ➿ Ambition Déjà Vu: Amidst the ambitious discussions about the future of technology in care, there was a recurring 'same story, different year' sentiment. Clearly, we need more than aspirations- we need a roadmap to guide our actions. Everything above can be solved, and a growing number of Councils are doing so. The state of the sector report (linked below) provides a platform to ignite greater collaboration and innovation. I'm excited to hear about all the progress we have made at ITEC 2025! What are your thoughts? Share in the comments! #TEC #Socialcare #Healthcare #FutureofCare
