Former president Jimmy Carter's devotion to advocacy continues to inspire, even after his passing at the age of 100. His legacy as a leader and humanitarian lives on, and so does the innovation that extended his life. In 2015, his treatment for metastatic melanoma with immunotherapy drug pembrolizumab (Keytruda), co-developed by Antoni Ribas, MD, PhD with the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, extended his life for nearly another decade.
