Last week, we presented our second paper at the Twenty-Third International Conference on Networks (ICN) in Barcelona, Spain. In this paper, we evaluate our approach by comparing 5G and 6G mobile networks under similar scenarios, with frequency and bandwidth being the only variables. The results obtained demonstrate that 6G mobile networks significantly outperform 5G mobile networks in terms of localization accuracy. This improvement is attributed to finer channel estimation facilitated by THz frequencies, which leads to enhanced positioning accuracy. Today, I am pleased to announce that our second paper has been published on ThinkMind, and you can access it here 👉 : https://lnkd.in/eXPMPBPS #6G, #Localization, #Accuracy

They consider the localization of multiple individ-ual moving transmitters (#targets), based on #Gaussian #process #regression (#GPR) using their corresponding #received #signal #strength #indicator (#RSSI) data, collected by sensors distributed at fix locations within the environment. To this #GPR-based #RSSI localization problem, they contribute a novel training procedure to optimize the parameters of the GPR model via mini-batch #stochastic #gradient #descent (#SGD), with gradient expressions given in closed form. Thanks to the proposed training method, robustness to imperfect #RSSI knowledge is added to the localization approach. ----Niclas Führling; @Hyeon Seok Rou; @Giuseppe Thadeu Freitas De Abreu, @David González G., @Osvaldo Gonsa More details can be found at this link: https://lnkd.in/gqa74U5U

📚 New research! When most crisis-affected people don’t speak a powerful language, how can they be heard and get the vital information they need? This report published by GSMA – Mobile for Development and CLEAR Global highlights the language limitations of most digital humanitarian services, leaving millions of crisis-affected individuals excluded. The research explores what digital language exclusion looks like, the risks it carries, how mobile technology can bridge these gaps, and what humanitarian organisations can do about it. 👉 https://bit.ly/49ZMumT #UKAid

You raise an excellent point about the intellectual property challenges that businesses face when expanding internationally, especially in the digital age of the 4th industrial revolution. Here are some key considerations: 1. Varying IP laws and protection: As you mentioned, IP laws and regulations can differ substantially across jurisdictions. What may be patentable in one country may not meet the criteria in another. The scope and enforcement of IP rights like patents, trademarks, and copyrights is inconsistent globally. 2. Lack of harmonization: Despite efforts through international treaties like the TRIPS agreement, there is still no standardized global IP system. This legal patchwork creates complexities for businesses trying to extend IP protection into new markets. 3. Differing patentability standards: Patenting digital innovations like software, AI, and business methods faces varying degrees of acceptance worldwide. Countries have different criteria for patent eligibility in these emerging technological areas. 4. Risk of weaker protection: Some countries may have underdeveloped or ineffective IP regimes leaving businesses vulnerable to counterfeiting, reverse engineering or weaker enforcement of exclusive rights. 5. Cost and complexity: Securing patent protection internationally through the PCT national phase entry is costly and complex to coordinate and maintain across multiple jurisdictions. To navigate this landscape, international businesses must develop robust IP strategies tailored to priority markets and technologies. This involves conducting patent landscape analyses, carefully drafting patents to meet varying requirements, and deciding where to pursue registration/enforcement based on risk-reward analysis. Cross-border IP issues will likely persist despite reform efforts like WIPO dialogues on AI inventorship or the Unitary Patent system in Europe. However, a pro-active global IP strategy that accounts for jurisdictional differences can help digitally driven businesses protect their key innovations and assets when scaling internationally.
IP challenges for international businesses in the 4th industrial revolution With the growing connectivity though the internet also the internationalization and globalization of businesses gains ever more speed. While the internationalization of brick and mortar businesses was limited by the number of people you can put on the ground in new markets, more digitalized businesses can enter and address the customers in new markets purely online via the internet. That way, they can use the scalability of digital services not only to generate more users and customers on their platforms, but also for internationalization. Nevertheless, digital services still experience IP challenges when entering new markets, since IP laws may vary drastically between the various jurisdictions of the target markets and e.g. grant rates and scopes of protection for digital patents can be very different in various countries.

🌐 Global Digital Compact, zero version Let's focus our attention on those who seem to be examples of immediate wins: technical community (e.g. ccTLD's) and academy recognized as separate stakeholders; commitment to the vision of the WSIS and its outcome (multistakeholder model???); importance of local languages to empower users to make informed choices and to support and foster locally-generated data (let's bring the Portuguese language to where it belongs!). 🔗 Find out all about the #GlobalDigitalCompact: zero draft here: https://lnkd.in/dJHp7trn

How do we regulate the internet without suffocating freedom? How do we allow it to grow naturally without becoming a hazard to humans? That’s a bit of what the participants of the #EuroDIG2024 conference in Vilnius are here to discuss. I am not in any way qualified to talk internet policy. However, I can highlight the key elements that make a human network safe, dynamic, vibrant and fun. Thanks to EuroDIG - European Dialogue on Internet Governance and the whole team for bringing musical co creation to this dialogue on #InternetGovernance. 🙏 Tomas Lamanauskas, Gintarė Ribinskienė, RRT | The Communications Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Lithuania , Barrington Events , Rolandas Girstautas, Vaidotas Jakuška
