There are some great insights here from COL Matthew Paul on his "12 battle-tested lessons from Army acquisition". I'd say every single one of these lessons are applicable, in their own right, across the DoD and to many different mission sets. We need the DoD to be more agile, more flexible with requirements and demand competition. He hit the nail on the head at the end - the last 18 months the Army has reformed faster than I have ever seen it change since I started supporting it. I'm looking forward to seeing what the future holds and the continued progress it makes. What especially hit home for me was the focus on leading metrics. As a former maintenance officer in my younger days, I hated the fact we spent so much time chasing lagging metrics. If you get all your leading metrics good, your lagging metrics are always going to catch up. Also, it was nice to dust off the ole Maintenance Metrics Handbook from back in the day and reflect on the flightline.

Great article highlighting the cross functional need for IO Officer to integrate actions across all three dimensions in time space and purpose to achieve the right effects. Whatever the doctrinal framework joint or army the complexitites of integration can not be overly simplified must be accounted for- hence the need for a more refined integration process and trained personnel.
