ARNORTH leaders and teammates opened the Homeland Defense Symposium with a visit to the National Museum of the U.S. Army as part of the Leadership Development Program. Through the exhibits and the USNORTHCOM Command Historian's prompt, they explored how the Army has defended the Homeland since 1783 through prevention, preemption, and power projection. This reflection reinforces leadership and mission focus, essential to safeguarding the nation. #HomelandDefense #ARNORTH #USArmyNorth #FifthArmy #strengthofthenation

This is something I’m extremely proud of. It’s taken nearly 2 years to pull together the breadth of understanding that the 🇬🇧 Centre for Army Leadership has amassed since it’s conception in 2016, mapping the entire skill of leadership and translating it for the specific needs of the Army. 🌟 It’s been a huge team effort to get to this point, and a big thanks must go to our community of advocates and Fellows, as well as Defence and NATO partners who have been offering valuable peer review throughout its development. 🧭Yet it’s publication is only the start of the organisational adoption needed. There is now a long road ahead to ensure that how we train, educate, and develop our leaders is realigned to this foundational framework, together with developing the necessary support systems, such as a wide-scale coaching mentality across all ranks, that will ensure we maximise the full potential of every individual. #Leadership #LeaderDevelopment #LeadershipDevelopment
🌟The next evolution in how the British Army develops its leaders is here. Introducing the Leader Competency Framework (LCF). The best bit - we’ve made it completely open-source for the benefit of everyone. 📚 The LCF represents the culmination of the 🇬🇧 Centre for Army Leadership’s research efforts over several years, in collaboration with Defence, NATO, Allied, and industry partners.🤝 🌍 Built upon global research and tailored to meet the specific needs of the Army, the LCF provides the foundation for the professionalisation of leadership as an organisational capability, as well as a roadmap for the development of our leaders.🧭 📈From personal growth to organisational planning, the LCF will ensure our leaders are better equipped and empowered to face the leadership demands and challenges of fighting and winning wars on land today and in the future.💪 👀 Read it here: https://shorturl.at/ilCPT #Leadership #LeaderDevelopment #LeadershipDevelopment #BritishArmy #Military

I like this framework. Having worked with the #caf competency framework, this is leaps and bounds ahead in terms of its straightforward and easy to explain framework.

This is one of the most indepth leadership discussions I've had openly with a field grade officer concerning the Air Force Academy, West Point, Annapolis, and our operational military. I reflect on my time in the Marine Corps nearly every day in my corporate work. There are countless lessons I learned in the Marines that I now rely on daily. Here are a few, in addition to what others have already shared, that I think about: 1. Pre-Op Planning and Post-Op Briefings / After Action Reports - be planful, taking into account all intelligence and experience you have before undertaking an operation, then make sure you look back and ask yourself "how did that go, and what did I learn?" 2. Embrace the Suck - sometimes the job at hand is simply hard, and not enjoyable. It's best to just put your head down and get to work rather than stew in misery about how hard it is. I once had "burn and stir" duty in the temporary latrines in Morocco...talk about needing to embrace the suck. 3. Muscle Memory and "Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast"- practice makes perfect. The more you work at something with focused intention, the better you get at it until it becomes second nature. Slow down to speed up.

In commemoration of 9/11, I want to share two simple truths every leader needs to hear—whether you're in combat or the boardroom. 23 years ago today, I was on a plane heading to the Marine Corps School of Infantry. Since then, I’ve had countless opportunities to put the Marine Corps' two interconnected leadership principles to the test—both in the military and in business. These principles have never let me down. 1️⃣ Accomplish the mission. 2️⃣ Take care of your people. As we honor the bravery and sacrifices made on 9/11, and in the years that followed, let's recommit ourselves to these timeless leadership values. What leadership lesson has stayed with you over the years? #Leadership #USMC #SimpleTruths #NeverForget

Here is one of the points discussed in our monthly Military Leadership Conversation; MOVING OUT OF THE WAY. The power of knowing when to move out of the way when reaching personal capabilities and capacity is a crucial skill for military members and veterans alike. In the heat of the moment, whether on the battlefield or during everyday duties, it's imperative to recognize when you've reached your limits. Pushing beyond your capacity can lead to physical, emotional, or mental harm, not just for yourself but also for your comrades who depend on you. Recognizing when it's time to step aside takes true strength and wisdom. Doing so creates space for others to take charge, ensuring the mission continues seamlessly. This selfless act is a hallmark of effective leadership in the military. Owning this self-awareness can prevent unnecessary consequences and maintain the team's integrity. See you next month! #military #veteran #coach #training #transition

My West Point education granted me untold benefits. One of them was leadership. My leadership education was two-fold. I learned the theory first, with courses in the history of military leadership and government. And then I had numerous practical, on-the-ground experiences. I commanded soldiers as an airborne ranger infantry lieutenant. The best part? Special Forces Warfare School. I took a course in civil affairs, where the entire curriculum was to interact with a community, understand what's important to them, be respectful, and follow their customs. As I went through West Point, I learned a framework for leadership. You don't have to go to West Point to be a leader. But you need to understand the theory and get tons of practical experience. It's that sort of training that provides entrepreneurs a huge leg up. Scout Ventures #themindfulentrepreneur #dualusevc #dualuse #frontiertech #leadership

Tuesday's Thoughts: Leadership Myth: "Military leadership is just about giving orders." Reality check—Nope! In the military, just like in corporate America, leadership is less about commanding and more about inspiring. My experience in leading teams has shown that leading by example, earning respect, and fostering trust have always achieved better results. 💪 Sure, Hollywood loves to show military leaders screaming at their soldiers/ Marines/ sailors/ airmen, but the truth is, the best military leaders listen more than they speak, mentor more than they command, and lead from the front ("deck plate leadership"), not just from behind a desk. As a MyNavy Leadership Coach in my final years in the Navy, I was driven by the passion to inspire others to reach their full potential. Now, I’m eager to bring that same energy to an organization that’s committed to making a real impact. Got an open role? Let’s connect and explore how I can add value to your team! #Leadership #hireme #LeadershipDevelopment #JobSearch #veteran
