Creating a welcoming and inviting environment in your home creates deeper connections with friends and loved ones. When you open your doors to others and create a space where people feel comfortable and relaxed, meaningful interactions happen and relationships become much tighter. Sharing meals, hosting gatherings, or providing a space where people can unwind and socialize can goes a long way in building deeper connections. These moments of togetherness allow people to bond, share experiences, and create lasting memories. Be intentional about creating an atmosphere that promotes warmth, comfort, and hospitality. You not only enrich your own life but also create opportunities for others to feel valued and connected. Nurturing a sense of community and belonging through your physical home will extend beyond the four walls you live in. #CapitolCreatorsAndChampions #WashingtonDC #NetworkingEvents #Tech #RealEstate #Consulting #PrivateEquity #VentureCapital

I'm noticing an increase in social clubs, supper clubs, and salons post-lockdown as more people recognize the benefits of social connection on their health to combat a rise in loneliness and isolation. What has been frustrating is to see this human need become commodified. Something like 'And the Table' (https://lnkd.in/e9nx-QSb) combines so much of what I like - new conversations, a chance to meet new people, and food. Yet it's a price point that might be hard for many of us especially in expensive cities like New York, and points to this commodification of experience that feels less about connecting and more about a startup. I don't begrudge anyone the chance to connect and the chance to grow a business - I actively track these community experiences (via https://lnkd.in/eQ3AcU63 and other sites) and hope to go to more of them. But it feel like the pricing becomes a barrier ironically preventing connection. I want to support local businesses so they thrive and scale out; I also know that the assumption in 2024 that people should be kept from connecting because of their socioeconomic status feels exclusionary. There has to be a better way - perhaps back to connecting and less about needing the meal. An expensive steak doesn't make conversation - your curiosity about humans does.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝟯 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗸𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: As the end-of-year celebrations ramp up — holiday parties, festive gatherings, and company events 🎄— it can seem like the perfect time to connect. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘆. → 𝗔𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗹: It seemed like nothing worked without a drink in hand. I don’t drink much, and for a while, I experimented with two years of sobriety. Yet, there was always this unspoken pressure to join in. A simple “no” was never enough—I had to justify my choice. It was exhausting. → 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: Networking events that dragged into the late hours felt like a no-go for me. Even with no kids, it's not my jam. I treasure my early mornings and the feeling of being fresh and alive. Forcing myself to stay up late to "play the game" wasn’t sustainable. → 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀' 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 𝗩𝗶𝗯𝗲𝘀: I worked in tech, and the boys’ club culture was hard to ignore. The 'jokes', the conversations, the overall atmosphere—it felt exclusive and unwelcoming. These aren’t just my challenges—many women face similar barriers in traditional networking spaces. It’s a systemic issue. That’s why I’m passionate about creating more inclusive, supportive spaces for connection—spaces that foster growth and empowerment rather than leaving people out in the cold. 💬 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸? #WomenNetwork #SheRising #InclusiveWorkplace #FemaleLeadership #WomenEmpowerment

Just wrapped our last meetup of the year, and while it was also a small meetup, it provided me with one of the most productive conversations I've had regarding mental health and neurodivergence (writing this down so I remember!). I had a conversation about social determinants and the stigmatization, even in medical spaces, of mental health when it comes to social determinants. I learned today that, in transplant or transfusion medical operations, social determinants are used to determine whether a patient gets the quality of treatment they need or even any treatment at all. And mental health is one of those key social determinants. While our focus on neurodivergence is valuable, I've realized the term might create unintended barriers. The heart of this community isn't about diagnoses—it's about creating a pressure-free space where people can network authentically and find support in navigating professional and cultural spaces despite personal needs in mental health. I'm envisioning our community's evolution to focus on helping everyone overcome mental barriers in professional and social settings, making connections more accessible and genuine. As we grow, I'm committed to shaping this space to serve everyone who needs it, whether they identify as neurodivergent, need advice on mental health as a topic, or simply seek a more comfortable networking environment. Your feedback is always welcome—reach out via DM or at jimzjxu [at] gmail [dot] com to help us build this inclusive space together! #mentalhealth #networking #professionaldevelopment #destigmatization
Hey all! I’m excited to announce our last Mind the Gap meetup of the year on next Wednesday (12/18) at 5pm at the Vanilla Gorilla Cafe on 44th Street (Midtown Manhattan)! The structure will be pretty identical to our previous meetup, where it will be focused on casual intros and meeting new people. (Note that there is absolutely no pressure or expectation to stay for the whole duration! Come just to say hi!) Event link on Geneva: https://lnkd.in/g5tWdmHw Here is a high-level agenda: * Saying hi to folks, introducing yourself (name, current profession, what you’re looking for in Mind the Gap) * Sharing a transformative or interesting story about your journey through your professional life (if you’re comfortable), and how Mind the Gap can help you accomplish what you’re looking for * Grabbing a coffee or two and join in the conversation! Please feel free to message me if you have any questions or comments! Feedback is always greatly appreciated ☺️ What Is Mind the Gap: Mind the Gap NYC is a community based (currently) in NYC to connect professionals living with (diagnosed or undiagnosed, perceived and/or self-perceived) ND conditions! Neurodivergent folks often perceive situations differently from neurotypical people, and I myself have written extensively on the struggles and strengths of those traits in professional workplaces where certain etiquettes, subtle signals, and implicit meanings are littered throughout the environment. This community aims to provide a safe space for ND folks to network and to make friends! #Neurodivergence #MentalHealth #Networking #CommunityBuilder #ProfessionalDevelopment

Want to drive business innovation? The answer might lie in your community. In this Inc. piece, Robbie Harrell shares four ways that engaging with your community may help improve business innovation: 💠 Communities can fuel collaborative creativity. Your community is a valuable resource for ideation and problem-solving.
